Forums - Gaming - I want a game about managing a console maker. What game do you want?

Kinda like Game Dev Tycoon but bigger and better.

I want to be able to look for external funding should my company not be able to provide it on its own

I want to be able to pick the specs, features and price for my system

I want to be able to do the market research to determine the best specs, features etc. as well as the marketing message for my system

I want to be able to built or buy first party studios, hire talent, improve my studios, make games and built a successful first party portfolio

I want to be able to work with 3rd party publishers, make deals for marketing, exclusivity etc.

I want to be able to invest in R&D to create features/hardware that can give me the edge on the market

I want to be able to schedule game releases as well as ideal points for new console launches, all the while of course having to deal with development delays

I want the game to have different difficulty sliders, one that changes the level of competition, one that changes how much tastes differ between different markets (from one global taste to a tastes more alike to the current actual situation, maybe even a way to just randomize tastes) and one that decides the likelyhood of unfavourable events happening to you (like game delays)

I want tastes to of course develop with time as technology does

I want there to be a free play mode in which you can start in any generation you want and work yourself up from there, you should also be able to pick where you are coming from when you don't start in the first gen (Are you a new console maker in the market? Did you have a gen before? Where you successful before?)

I want there to also be different real world or fictional scenarios to play with certain goals to hit (e.g. you are Sega and you're trying to compete with Sony after the PS1/Saturn, make your next system a success)

I want the game to have a mode that's sticking closely to the real world gaming history while changing dynamically with the decisions that you make (e.g. you are Sony and you get the offer to fund Titanfall, you take it. This will change the performance of the PS4 and will also lead to MS funding something new with the money freed up from that) and one that's basically randomized.

I want to of course be able to play past the current point in time and the current generation.

And for when I feel totally crazy I want there to be a multiplayer mode in which every player takes on the role of one console maker trying to compete with each other.

Am I the only one here that wants to play something like this?

What are game ideas that you'd love to play?

I completely agree! I'd love a game like that, Game Dev Tycoon is alright but it seems a little arcadey and is way too small scale to really satisfy me.

Have you ever played the game Music Wars Rebirth? I'd love something like that, except for the gaming industry.

Nah, never heard of it, maybe I'll check it out. :P

I honestly don't know why a game like that hasn't been made already, I mean I can't imagine it being too hard to make in comparison to what else we have on the market (it's not trying to simulate the universe :D) it wouldn't have to be graphically intensive, that's for sure.

Well, if you had a Dreamcast and lived in Japan, you could have played SEGAGAGA. You're basically playing as the CEO of Sega in this game, although in a totally wacky way.

The business simulation I want was already done 1997 (Wet - the sexy empire)

Ironically enough I'd love this as a smartphone game

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

I think the part of the reason it hasn't been made is it would be a lot of work to put everything together, all those years of history of the gaming industry, formulas for how well games sell/review and everything else. Although the main reason is probably because such a game would be very niche.

It would sell billions!!! (But seriously I'm sure a game like this could be made cheaply enough to definitely be profitable, Game Dev Tycoon almost sold a million according to Steamspy after all)

From the Wiki page:

"Okano marketed the game himself, receiving a budget of about $200. He spent more than half of the money on a wrestling mask to hide his identity."

I lol'd

What we really need is a VGC simulator. Where you can be site admin and decide when charts come out and roll dice for the numbers. You can also become a mod and ban all the users you don't like. Basically Rol's dream game.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
