Forums - Microsoft - Phil Spencer: Scalebound, Crackdown, Quantum Break won't come to PC as of now (Halo MCC/5 suspiciously not mentioned)

Good news PC fans!

In the case of things like Scalebound or Crackdown or Quantum Break, you know, just to be completely honest with you, we started those games before we really looked at expanding into Windows in the way that I wanted to bring as part of becoming head of Xbox.

"Going to those teams mid-cycle and saying: ‘Hey, by the way, I want to add a platform,’ didn’t really feel like necessarily the best way to end up with the best result for the game. They had a path that they were on. It’s not to say those games could never come to Windows, but right now we’re on the path to finish the great games that they’ve started, and I want that to be the case. These games are on a path, whereas with, like, Halo Wars 2 I had the opportunity from the beginning, when we’re sitting down with the studio, to say, ‘Here’s the target. Here’s what we wanna go do.’

"I definitely want to build out our Windows games portfolio, and we’re making slow progress on that."

Fable Legends and Halo Wars 2 are part of that plan. Fable is set to take  full advantage of DirectX 12, and The Creative Assembly are on board to make Halo Wars 2, which was  announced earlier this week at Gamescom.

"It's not to say those games could never come to Windows", it seems to me that there is a possibility to have this games on pc.

Good point! Updated op. Good news for PC fans!

I think that reads more like confirmation that those games will all eventually be ported to PC. It's just not going to be part of the original development cycle. It seems like MS is perceiving some threat in the home PC space and that first party / 2nd party games is one way to help shore up dominance in home PCs. MS doesn;t have the 1st party capacity to develop exclusive games separately for Xbox and PC so they need to bring more Xbox games to PC.

I'd be surprised to see Halo 5 on PC, even though it was a Xbox/PC game right at the start it does seem like main sequence Halo should remain one of the essential pillars of Xbox and not be available on any other platform. Either that or now that MS owns Gears and is making it in-house Halo could go to PC and Gears can be the Xbox only pillar. It's a weaker pillar for Xbox, but if MS sees a need to really shore up PC with key MS exclusive games then Halo is a good candidate for PC.

It's nice to see Microsoft is supporting PC more but the problem is that now there are always people in every single Xbox One exclusive video, thread, etc that say they hope it comes to PC or port beg for it to come to PC just because they don't want to buy an Xbox One.

I could see Microsoft putting games that probably won't boost hardware as much like Halo Wars 2, Fable Legends, etc on PC but I doubt they'll put the big hitter console sellers like Halo 5, Quantum Break, Scalebound, etc on PC because they need those to stay exclusive to give people a reason to buy the Xbox One.

If they just put every first party game of theirs on PC then they get rid of any reason for anyone to buy an Xbox One, so they need to keep the big hitter console sellers exclusive to the Xbox One.

Smart move by Phil. Some things need to stay on Xbox One to keep them truly exclusive. Even if a PC port will come down the line, it's good to see it stay exclusive for now.

I'm fine without any of those but I would be very happy if Halo came to PC. Halo Wars 2 interests me, as well. I'd like to try Sunset Overdrive, too.

We might still get them. He clearly left it open. Going by Phil's past, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that a PC version will happen down the road.

Wait, there is a chance for scalebound to come to PC? Well tickle my nipples and call me a whore, that is epic news!!!
