Would love to see some NieR 2 gameplay footage. I'm interested to see how PG is going to handle it. Also hoping for a FFXV release date and a XII HD announcement.

I don't think you've ever taken a single look at what kind of games there are on smartphones. Or at what prices they're sold. Or the fact that you can't buy those games at retail. Or the fact that mobile games don't work with physical buttons... There's far more overlap in franchises between HC and HH gaming than HH gaming and mobile. You're OP says it all: "for fans of Japanese console games". I didn't know mobile games were console games... |
Lol, now that's some tryhard bullcrap, those are the best reasons why those can't be put in the same category? Because of game prices, not being able to buy the games at retail or physical buttons? The fact all of this is coming from a Nintendo fan makes this whole thing even richer, when they are the ones that like to experiment with input methods the most and when the DS had tons of hugely successful games that could and are easily done with any smartphone nowadays.
Here let me show you what kind of games there are on smartphones among others:

You should maybe stop your prejudices about what mobile games are, cause the japanese have moved quite a bit further than the western market when it comes to that.
You act as if there's hardly any overlap and meanwhile Fantasy Life 2 and the new Professor Layton game (both sequels to 3DS games) are being made exclusively for mobile, there is tons of franchise overlap between handhelds and mobile in Japan.
What's next, are you going to say that mobile doesn't compete with handhelds?
And good job reading the OP, now if only you knew what I meant by it...when I say console I mean home console not handheld, I make a very clear distinction between those things. And so should you, either distinguish between all these different types of gaming platforms or count them all together as one big games market. Putting consoles and handhelds together when they actually very much are different market segments (why do you think this site seperates console and handheld hardware marketshare?), but then seeking for arbritrary reasons to not have to count mobile so your camp wins reeks of nothing but desperation.

Look at the top 30 best selling HH games, almost all those franchises have HC games as well (with the exception of Professor Layton, Puzzle & Dragons, Nintendogs and Tomadachi Life). That's an overlap of almost 90%. Want a list of the top 30 best selling/best earning mobile games? Cause it ain't a DQ port.
Puzzle & Dragons is indeed a good example. It's free on IOS but filled with annoying micro-transactions. It costs €35 on the 3DS, but has no micro-transactions what so ever.
Oh and your list from games they'll show at TGS includes HH games (and not mobile games). Way to contradict yourself in your own OP.
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is such a shitty game, it's barely playable on a smartphone.
You really need to stop this obsession about mobile games when someone talks about console gaming. No mobile gaming won't kill Nintendo. ;)
You can't ignore HH when talking about the console market in Japan. Since mobile games aren't on a dedicated gaming device I can ignore it just fine. Unless we're talking about the gaming market in general, but you know, we weren't.
The differences between HH gaming and mobile are enormous:
- physical buttons: every played a 3DS game? I guess not if you don't think the way they control is a big deal. Nintendo likes to experiment with input methods, but they've never made a controller without physical buttons. Making your entire point moot. I guess HC gaming is just like mobile games! I mean you just gave DQ VIII as an example. Wasn't that a PS2 game? I guess PS2 games can easily be done on mobile as well. ;)
- The games that earn money on IOS are either free (and filled with micro-transactions) or cheap (and filled with micro-transactions). Ports of old games aren't bringing in the big money lol. HH games sell for at least €40 here.
- Only digital. HH is both digital and retail.
- Not on a dedicated gaming device: smartphones are much more than tools to use for gaming.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing more of Monster Hunter Stories. Is there any chance we'll see more of SMT X FE as well? More on Yo-kai Watch 3 would also be welcome.

You know what, I said I was done with this discussion and that's what I am. So let's agree on what we know anyway, I'm right, you're wrong like always.
Oh and regarding the bolded: Genius, of course they can.
That's I'm outta here. But hey thanks for shitting up another thread, you're really good at that.
