I think this site is very heavily Nintendo biased.

I could literally count the amount of Xbox fans on one hand.

how come? please expound more on how VGChartz is heavily Nintendo-biased.
I've tried to read more and more MS threads, but I can't relate to all since I haven't own any XBOX system.  And the war between Sony v MS fanboys, i don't care a lot of those topics they've raised.

User polls regarding fanbase suggest there are more Nintendo fans (Sony's a close 2nd, I believe).

Yep, I've noticed it on myself. Sometimes I read some posts I've written in the past months, and I think: "what the fuck was I thinking when I wrote this?" XDD. I'm such a Nintendo fanboy sometimes. But, hey, I can't help it. I actually play other games on PC, and I love some of them, but I don't feel the same about them, and Nintendo is the most important part of my gaming life so... I'm trying, I promise ;).

Oh and this site has made me lean more towards the extreme if only for the utterly moronic discussions and comments this site has way too much of (it doesn't only have that, but there's way too much shit like the current Sony Remaster thread for instance going on).

Try having a simple discussion on a game with no console war potential attached to it or try discussing things on the competition between the big 3, what they could do better, what they are doing well, maybe what you'd do different without it devolving into a complete fanboy, console war fest and you will have trouble getting anywhere. I came here because I'm (a little too) interested in game sales and would love to analyse and discuss them, what could make them better for sequels etc. but in general there is extremely little of that actually going on.

Folks, don't make this thread the perfect example.

but that is also a good argument, Nintendo has weak sales on Wii U. but yet there are a lot of Nintendo fans on a non-Nintendo only forum.

There are more NIntendo haters to begin with, with all the NX speculation threads, and other post-E3 threads that really went overboard.

Maturity is really key in having a good debate, but some of the posts here are just really childish.  Agree also on the point with one of the earlier poster, that most forums, people wanted black or white, and people who tends to be neutral, their posts seems ignored, or not so much weight, which is true.

It is really comes down to the heated debate between the absolute right against absolute wrong, and if the discussion is really just wumming or what.

I think there's very little forum users can do to be honest. All that CAN be done is that mods like yourself could keep a close eye on conversations and consider who is trying to be deliberately incitefull and who is trying to be reasonable (but still incites). THAT is an impossible job to undertake and it would mean following every single poster in every single topic to try and understand where they 'tend' to come from (we're not always perfect).

I'll have to use a word here that will infuriate a lot of people and definitely have them looking at my less than thoughtout posts lol (the second half of that sentence will be ignored):

The real question is: How do you encourage maturity from people who have no intention of being mature?

While it's true that much of the burden falls on the shoulders of the mod team - and it's a responsibility the team embraces - I also think that individual initiative plays an important role. There are many ways that members, myself included, can improve the forum on their own, whether by participating in more meaningful dialogue or by refusing to respond in kind to baiting, incendiary remarks.

I recognize that it's difficult, though. Letting a provocative comment go unanswered isn't always easy. And it's not so simple to show respect for what might seem like an unfair or unrealistic opinion. But I think we can get better about it.

Honestly, that's rather anecdotal.  In any given week/month/year you could point to the over-abundance of certain threads, and say 'Yup, Nintendo (or Sony, Or Microsoft) haters".  How about when The Last of Us Remastered launched? I only mention that because as a Sony fan, I was sensitive to the volume of those, whereas, a Nintendo fan is likely to be more sensitive and notice more Nintendo based threads.

Plus, NX is a new Hardware, on a site that discusses hardware primarily.  Obviously it's going to be of great interest in the topics, just like all hardware is when we know nothing about it (yet).  Not saying you aren't right, I'm just saying that there are numerous times where a particular subject (no matter the platform) is beaten to death in the forums with thread after thread after thread.

And I do agree, that some folks/users/subjects seem to get more leeway than others, with regards to the maturity of the discussion, however, I refer back to sensitivity on topics that include your platform of choice.  I can't really say one way or the other, because frankly, I try to avoid threads for platforms/games I'm not interested in unless I have something I feel is valuable to contribute to the topic (My issues with closed networks, lack of user control, ethical issues w/ journalism, lack of user mapmaking/moding tools, lack of voice functionality control etc..).

Yeah, I think perhaps I should have used 'improbable' there instead of suggesting 'impossible'. It's sometimes such a thankless (and often fruitless) task to try and rein in the extremes though. That's not to say we should just stop ... it's just to say it becomes too much of a focus. The perfect example is GAF in which there IS a 'hive mind' even though people like to believe there isn't. This is emphasised by being the sort of person that doesn't post that often there. I voiced a 'concern' about Uncharted: A Thief's End and got well adn truly shut down. I had dozens of posters jumping on my post and even though I'd already resolved the issue pages later (phew), other people who had just entered the thread began to quote me again. How do you remain ballanced and patient in the face of those odds? I just gave up even though I found the subject interesting and worth mentioning.

Thankfully (and I don't mean this with any disrespect) THIS site has far fewer members, so perhaps you are right and members CAN have some influence. We'll see, but as you've already seen in this very thread, the idea of compartmentalisation has been ignored.
