Forums - Microsoft - Kotaku: Unfortunately, Quantum Break looks a bit rubbish

Lol so now we're judging games that aren't even close to release? Gaming media is really going downhill.

Don't act suprised. You were around during The Order 1866.

Most of the criticism seems very empty. For example he complains about the game having special enemies who are immune to your time abilities. Thats like... a staple of any action game with a heavy combat focus.

Having to wait 20 minutes while being bored is trivial now?

Idk where you got trivial from, but i said "most", and cut scenes can be skipped :)

Lmfao

Whether the criticism is legit or not, it seems the consensus is that Kotaku is a piece of shit publication

I don't even think people bothered to read the article.

One of his criticisms is that, time power has been done before on Max Payne. A game made more than 10 years ago, with nowhere near the grandeur of QB's ambition visually, nor in terms of gameplay.

This quote, to me, is interesting.

What is it that we should want in this situation?

The publishers/developers invite the gaming media in for a preview with the intention that writers write articles about it.  I assume that no one has a problem with this process or else they'd be attacking Microsoft and Remedy right now, as well.

What is the proper response from the media, then?  They have to write something, else they wouldn't be the media and they wouldn't be invited to future preview events.  The problem appears to be that members of the media are writing their own impressions of the games shown.  Many people don't seem to like that.  Should the writers ONLY write positive things, then, even if they don't feel positive about the game?  Would that make readers happy?  If not that, should they write ONLY factual information with as little personal opinion as possible?  Would that make for a popular preview?

It's an interesting subject.  However, it seems like there is a really big variable, in that some people seem okay with a critical preview of one game then very angry about a critical preview of a different game.

So, yeah, what do people want?

Kotaku are clearly out for hits.

The article from a few days ago only had a dozen or so comments. Their latest propaganda piece has already racked up 40 comments.

That may actually say more about the popularity or Quantum Break than his other article.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Alan wake was a poor Third person shooter, but remedy made atmosphere and story be one of the most memorable games.

I trust remedy will do a fine job.

the 1886 shoe is on the other foot and people are reacting in the equal opposite manner, no real surprises here.

That's some wild generalization there from a mod. Kind of unsettling to say the least.

I didn't see many Xbox fans here saying that.
