I've been researching the best methods to get the best video quality out of older consoles on HDTVs and thought it would be cool to have a dedicated thread for it. I have a Toro VGA box on order for the Dreamcast(need a scaler to HDMI though), component cables for the Wii(for Gamecube games primarily) and a backwards compatible PS3 for ps2 gamesvia HDMI. Also ordered component cables for PS3/PS2 to use on PS1 games in case HDMI is too harsh on those low resolution games. Am looking into getting a XRGB Mini upscaler for even older consoles that support RGBScart but need to research it more before I put down $400US for it. What do you guys have/prefer? Post your setup :)

Just buy or pick up for free, an old Sony Trinitron crt TV, get the authentic retro experience

An old CRT TV is the best for Retro consoles plus S-video/Composite or RGB scart if you're from Europe.

Oh man you guys are missing out on so much. I connected my PS2(via composite) to my LED Bravia and put on MGS3 and I could barely see the enemies. I then hooked up my PS3(that can play PS2 games) via HDMI on the same TV and played MGS3 and it was night and day difference. Most consoles have several alternatives much better than composite(Dreamcast with VGA, PS2/Gamecube/Wii with component, SNES/Genesis/Jaguar with RGB SCART) and they look really amazing on HDTVs.

I have an old Philips CRT TV which I use for my retro consoles. I am just short of one SCART connector (widespread in europe; normal TVs generally had 2 of them, this one came with a staggering 4 connectors plus one front RGB connector) to connect all my retro consoles (NES, SNES, Megadrive, N64, Gamecube, PS2; PS1 and Wii are left out due to backwards compatibility) to it at the same time.

Heres my retro setup, can play any nes/snes/mastersystem/msx/gb/gba/gbc/neogeo/ps1/pce/32x/segacd/c64/n64 game from hard drive or any nes/snes/megadrive/n64 game from physical cart.

I have an extra room with my good old Sony Black Trinitron CRT and a SCART switcher:
