Should Square Enix give the marketing rights of FFXV to Sony this early?

Next Monday morning in the Square Enix PR department:

"Can I have your attention? We have decided this weekend that all marketing for our games will be handled by Sony from now. That allows us to focus on the game development... so who of you guys can program? Any hobby artists here which can support the graphics or audio departments?" ;)

sorry but it's not SE fault that there are people so desperate and emotional that they get angry when they don't get what they want. if you can't handle the tease, don't follow the news.

is that why everyone not named EA(barring Star Wars since Disney knows where the market is) is running to Sony to market their games?

Do you have proof that they are running to Sony?

Or do they wait for offers of the big three about bundles / marketing deals / timed exclusives / exclusive DLCs and then decide which seems to be the best choice?

It's only logical to not offend the market leader. Sometimes wars are won by intimidation and the 25M userbase of PS4 is a sign of power itself. Why trouble yourself finding an audience where there is not in a runner-up console when one could simply find it in an existing userbase double that or even build more with that?

There is pretty much two good options, do it yourself or co-operate with Sony, so why not?

Going with MS would only cause one of the biggest shitstorms in recent history and I don't think that is how SE wants to promote FFXV.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

It's also logical to not offend the rest of the market players if you don't want to poison further relationships. Microsoft ain't only Xbox... and the fusion of Xbox and Windows-PCs is progressing every year. Xbox + Gaming PCs together are also a very powerful userbase. Nintendo's NX can reshuffle the cards if done right. And don't forget the immensly growing mobile gaming market...

There are more players than ever, so why bind yourself to only one platform without necessity and piss off the rest?

Pissing off the market is best done by making a bad game. Marketing deals? Not as much.

I don't even know what's your argument in here when the thread is about Square Enix handing down marketing deals to Sony so they could focus on making a good game better. What are you even fighting for?

Honestly... yes.. Sony seems to do a fantatic job with marketing.
That way they can just focus on the game.

This.

It's not like Sony is competent at that

I feel marketing is the wrong word, media management? or PR?

Sony does do it well. Even when The Last Guardian ended up in development hell they knew how to respond in pulling the game from the spotlight completely and waiting to reintroduce when it was a year away from release. Square on the other hand trip fed Versus XIII/XV trailers almost every year between 2006 and 2015.

2012 and 2007 are the only exceptions I think

Its not Square Enix's fault that their managing of the gamea promotion backfires? I think it is.
