If your competition uses cheap tactics, you have to use even cheaper tactics. Phil you have more money, outmoneyhat Sony. Nice guys end last.

Except Sony isn't using any cheap tactics.  Unless MS using them last gen was considered cheap.  And no, Phil doesn't have more money.  MS has been decreasing the amount of money they are pumping into Xbox, hence them losing/not renewing 3rd party agreements they would have had previously.  Sony is just coming in and picking those up.  This is also why he has said they are now focusing on 1st party.  They aren't spending any extra money on 1st party, they are just spending less on 3rd party agreements.  It's all just PR spin to counteract any negative perceptions about the changes that are happening to the Xbox division.

And now we are seeing the real phil spencer: typical Microsoft pr full of bullshit.

haha -- why's Persona 5 sony exclusive then?

pst. It's because they have a dominate japanese market share. While this point is quite obvious, it just pushes out what Phil Spencer just said. Moving along...

Sony dominates the Japanese market share? Hahaha.

Has Nothing to do with Marketshare, eh phil? Then why is the richer company not getting the same exclusive deals in a generation where they aren't beating Sony? Oh yeah....Marketshare. Activision always signs with a winner and the only reason you have EA exclusively is because Sony decided not to accept their Access Vault. It would be at odds with their own service they provide.

lol yes. Nintendo is nonexistent when the topic is talking about AAA third party games. Maybe you need to read what is being discussed again? Third Party AAA exclusive games.

OK, so I can see what's happening in the future from this statement just like I could when Nintendo made theirs. Spencer has just stated they need to focus on 1st party games and now he's trying to suggest ANY exclusive on the Sony platform is moneyhatted. Answer: MS are struggling to make deals with 3rd parties because of the 'MARKET SHARE' (Spencer) Sony have gained, so he's trying to help turn it into a negative for any future announcements from Sony that are seen as third party exclusives. MS play their fanbase like old fiddles.

This.  Looks like Phil is slipping back into old MS habits.  The fact is, the higher an install base is compared to its competition, the easier it is for the higher selling console to get 3rd party exclusives.  For larger companies, it could just mean helping them pay for advertising, or paying to include their game in a bundle.  For smaller/medium sized companies, it could mean giving them nothing more than a little promotion on their stage and/or Youtube page.  The reason being if your console is at 15m+ over the competition and quickly growing the gap, they can make all their money back just by selling to your base, while getting extra hype/interest by being an exclusive.  They also don't have to worry about spending extra money and time porting their game to a different system with different specs, then dealing with the requirements to launch on that system, too.

One-two combo right there. MS has gone back to stealth-tactics.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

Of course he played it well. His comments are aimed at one dempgraphic, the one that is ready to drink whatever Koolade he mixes them. Fortunatelly, that demographic is not large, and exists mainly on a few internet forums where they stand in circle and pat each other on the back.

Had that demographic been larger, they would now be drinking a physical disc DRM, region locked always online mandatory always on Kinect Koolade, and be happy that they are getting screwed every which way.

It is obvious that 3rd party exclusives cost so much more for XOne, with them being obliterated in almost every market, and that any sensible developer knows that. And theybcannot offset that with 1st party offering because they are very limited by both talent and imagination (they themselves admitted that they tried and miserably failed to create an Uncharted competitor, hence the whole TR moneyhat debacle).

Sure, they'll throw some cash to mercenary 3rd parties like Platinum, Comcept or Insomniac, but gone are the days of cheaply procuring that support.

I am sure that EA is enjoying that situation, they are probably raking in huge money from the FIFA deal on a console that is comatose in Europe. They took their money on Titanfall, and certainly asked for a huge sum to keep TF2 away from PS4 again, but Nadella is not an idiot to give Spencer blank checks.

That is why Spencer now wants to focus on 1st party, but if they failed to create anything meaningful in the past 15 years (only Forza actually) should people really expect their fortunes to turn around. I think the next few years will be a steady diet of Halo, Gears, Forza, Fable, with one off cheap mercenary moneyhats and a heavy gocus on PC gaming.

Of course, they will still serve Koolade to the thirsty any chance they get.

Yep. What also amazes me is how quickly a statement of 'intent' leads to immediate praising of said statement. It's all well and good saying you are going to concentrate on 1st party but it's another delivering on that promise. I'm sure some people think once the decision is made the turnover is going to happen in months when in reality it takes years to built up a portfolio of 'new' 1st party IPs. The rub is that the statement on intent is ALSO smoke and mirrors and what he's actually saying is 'more Gears, more Halo, more Forza and more Fable.' It's far too late to turn a risk into success and MS know that. Will we see a new IP at some point? Probably, but it will only be lip service to another 'wait and see' strategy. It's the exact same strategy they used for Kinect, and because of their userbase's absolute blind faith, they managed to pull it off again with Kinect 2. And they pull it off AGAIN with Hololens. I'm sure more and more people are hearing the penny drop though and the leverage they have over their fans is slowly waning (apart from those that would watch fools like Crapgamer).

What are your views on BC? I wouldn't be surprised to see the 360 dropped soon ;)
