This might be bad. What was the last succesful ip that a microsoft studio created? Forza?
Unless he is considering external studios first party, then it should be business as usual.

Gears of war was the big new ip of last gen that did well.

He said created by a microsoft studio.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Because of another teams talent and ideas.

He's asking about a developer under the ownership of microsoft, coming up with something big.

This sounds good. A lot of third parties are less willing to enter into exclusive deals because of the major risk of having an IP on just one console, especially with AAA budgets the way they are. Besides, a lot of those PS4 games that people keep calling exclusives aren't exclusive at all. Microsoft has spent billions of dollars on studio development and the acquisition of other studios and IP's ever since they started the Xbox project in the late 90's. It's about time they finally took full advantage of all their assets.

Are we talking about the same company that spent 2 billion dollars on....Minecraft?

Minecraft is a trans-platform game. A $2 billion decision was not made by amateurs.

Minecraft sells stupidly well on any platform it is available on.

With that amount of cash they could have secured so many exclusives this gen and new IPs, that the Xbox One could have won at least a couple of markets around the globe, but no...Minecraft.

Yes, that´s what I meant. I´m sure Phil Spencer is talking only about timed exclusives, timed dlcs and that sort of things, otherwise that would be really bad. I don´t think they can go all in on their own studios right now.

Minecraft was the most popular new ip of last gen. So yeah, that was a good deal.

so basically they can't afford the 3rd party games like they used to because if ps4 sales.

good to invest in 1st party but this is being done because there is no alternate .

MS has more money than Sony and could afford to simply buy huge IPs if they wanted to.

Im not saying that it was a good or bad deal, but just like Amiibos give loads of money to Nintendo, at the end of the day what does that give to you as a gamer?

Would you have prefered 10 new exclusives for the X1 or the Minecraft deal? Be sincere.
