The trip from concept to alpha to beta has been fairly...rough.

I'm just glad this is getting made. Loved the Mega Man Legends games, so I should like this.
ALPHA 1 - look how great this looks, no color but just look
ALPHA 2 - MN9 model looks way better here
last vid shows similiar area to above but with color at end

The first shot is concept art. I don't know why anyone would expect the final product to look like the concept art. Third shot looks alot better than the second IMO.

It was more like people expected the game to be 2D based on the art and then it turned out to be 2.5D.
We'll just have to agree to disagree on the second part, because for me this game has looked and sounded worse each time I've seen it.

They could've made a cel-shaded 2D game, instead of whatever 2.5D thing they're trying now...

Sure... they could have done a lot of things that they chose not to do. They made the game they wanted... because they're the developers. It was never implied that it was going to be cell shaded. I believe that the Alpha footage came out during the initial campaign, so nobody should have thought it would be celshaded while they were donating. And the Mega Man franchise has never been celshaded. It would feel weird to me honestly.
And the idea that it's not cel shaded doesn't in any way imply that somehow funds were used for other purposes. They just didn't want to, and never promised to, use celshading.

Yeah, I believe you on all accounts, but I still think the game would've looked so much more appealing as a 2D cel-shaded game

I actually really like cel-shading in general, but I don't know how it would work in this game. I basically view this as a Mega Man game, and Mega Man games haven't been celshaded. The graphic style really seems based on Maverick Hunter X (the Mega Man X remaster on the PSP). I like it.
