Forums - Gaming - Chimera or the Locust Horde? WHOS MORE BADASS?

12 new chimerian enimies in the new one. I wonder how bad ass those will be.

I'm going to have to say chimera. It's all about the weapons and technology now-a-days and a chainsaw wont hold up much against spires, robots, and guns that go through walls.

hm... here is a thought...

Chimera infect things. Depending on what the infect and how many they use they decide how bad ass the thing is.

If the chimera infected the locust...... All hope would be lost for the human race(and the locust)

The Locust win for one reason... The Krill. Those things are all sorts of pain in the ass. Not to mention the Corpsers, Berzerkers, etc.

the krill arnt on teh locusts side r they? because i remeber playing campign and luring the locusts into the dark and they got killed by the krill

Yes, the Krill are on the Locust side. After all, a good portion of the game involved you going into the underground where the Locust lived - and where the Krill resided - to capture one specific item. If they're not on the same side, they most certainly live harmoniously.

I agree that the Krill are pretty badass, but then I must throw a counter-point in by talking about the Chimerian Spires that release the thousands of bugs that crawl inside and infect humans.

I like that there are tons of variety in the Chimera and I think they look more vicious with their eyes and teeth. The Locust are more muscular and such.

However, the one thing that pisses me off about the Chimera (and probably the Locust too) is that there is WAY too much mystery about them. Every weird thing about the Chimera were simply explained with something like "We have no idea" or "Chalk another one up to the mystery of the Chimera". With the Locust, my problem was that the story of Gears didn't really start out very strongly and it didn't really tell me that much. I felt like that akward guy sitting nearby while you're having a conversation with your friend and you don't know if that guy is trying to listen to you or not.

That didn't bother me at all in Gears. I didn't care where the Locust came from because the game started out and you immediately knew that everything went to shit and that the Locust were the problem.

I'm very much of the opinion that in storytelling, the less you force the viewer to partake in history that he or she may not care about, the better. Leave something to the imagination. In the second and third installments, I will want to know more about the Locust but in the first game, leaving much of it to mystery is perfectly acceptable to me.

After all, would you have wanted to know about the Emperor, Vader's history, and the birth of the Stormtrooper all in the first Star Wars? Hell no. All you needed to know was that there was a bad guy, lots of crazy shit was happening, an Empire had formed recently, and that there was something weird called "the Force". IMO, it made for a pretty decent movie, though definitely not one that challenged the grey matter.

I pick Helghast....jk

Locusts are much more awesome when they die (especially with chainsaw), their bodies fall apart piece by piece, make awesome squishy noises when they die, look more detailed and have exploding heads.... If that's not bad ass, then i don't know what is.

Chimeras.... have neat back packs, cool skulls and.... skinny legs.

So for now, I'll vote Locust. Maybe R2 will have some really cool new enemies.

I think both are cool, but aren't locust really just chimera with thick necks and better posture?

Chimera are scarier and look more viable, so I'll go with them.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Who's more badass? Whoever Chuck Norris allows to be.

OT: I can't comment on Chimera, but the Locust pretty much get their asses handed to them by 2/4 COGS. I would imagine it's the same in Resistance: A couple of guys kick the asses of thousands of enemies. In light of both species failiure to win a war that's already in the bag, both fail.

Is GeoW a horror game, because there were certainly moments of Resistance which scared me, mostly where those gangly things who charged at me appeared from nowhere to be on top of me

Well, it's not a horror game, but it certainly pulls the "OH FUCK! Get the hell outta here!" in several moments.

But, like the best games out there now, Gears is best experienced with a friend. Online co-op is the best creation ever put to the shooter genre. Nothing is better than listening to your buddy dying while frantically trying to stave off the oncoming enemies while retreating to defend him. That's pure intensity.

Guess what Resistance doesn't have? Automatic voice chat. It's what Counter-Strike innovated many years ago and it's what XBL mandated from the beginning. Even most people in PSN don't have the most crucial tool in online gaming, the ability to speak. Sony, and their stubbornness on Bluetooth, fucked this in the ass. Just try to play three players with voice... It can't happen. Thank you Sony, thank you , Bluetooth!

*edit: I'm only referencing the pure limitations of Bluetooth technology and if you want to argue that, go for it.  It's a shitty technology for controllers coupling that with headsets is purely stupid. The last thing I want is a voice tech that burns out in two hours and I don't want tech that takes up another spot in my Bluetooth setup, especially one that requires its own remote to make shit work.

Multimedia, my ass. Buy the trick, make it work.

Yeh, the co-op is something that really attracts me to games, cause then I can play with my brother, although what reallly pisses me off is the lack of offline multiplayer with bots, I remember TS2, it was amazing. Anyway, the co-op of GeoW makes me want to by a 360 for it (as well as LO, ME and fable 2) and it was an amazing game
