Guitar Hero sales today:
2 PS3
0 360
2 PS2
4 Wii
We have more Wii preorders than any other system. However, this could be explained by two things:
1) We're a toy store. More kids buy stuff here, and more kids buy Wii stuff.
2) The Wii and PS3 are the only two systems that don't have a Guitar Hero yet, and the PS3 does have backwards compatability with the PS2 versions. Since our preorders are for the Game + Guitar, people who already have a Guitar and just want the game wouldn't preorder with us. For example, anyone who owns the 360 Guitar would be much less likely to preorder.
Still, the Wii is easily the most preordered version of Guitar Hero for us. I'll keep you up to date on sales in that regard.
A man came in a week ago and was looking for a Wii for his daughter... but he clearly wanted to find a way to fudge a PS3, as in "this is technically a present for my daughter, but I like the PS3 and I'd love for you to tell me I could give her a present while giving myself a present too."
We had the "Buy 2, get 1 Free" sale a week ago... and my goodness, did we sell a lot of Wii software. Obviously it increased our sales across the board, but the Wii increase was disproportionately enormous. As an example, we sold out of the following 360 software as a result of the sale:
1) The Orange Box
We sold out of the following Wii software as a result of the sale:
1) Metroid Prime
2) Mysims
3) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
4) Carnival Games
5) Mario Strikers Charged
6) Mario Party
7) Harry Potter
8) Dance Dance Revolution
9) MLB Power Pros
Among several others. I wished I had a camera to take a picture of our Wii section: it's a little difficult to describe how sold out we were of nearly all Wii software. I'd say about 1/3 or 1/4 of all our Wii games were sold out.
The 360 definitely surged for us at and right before Halo, but we're back down to approximately pre-Halo levels. A bit more, I think, but it's difficult now to distinguish Halo-generated interest from Christmas-generated interest.
We recieved 39 Wiis this morning, Sunday, October 28th. We sold all of these Wiis within an hour of opening our store.
All three consoles -- the PS3, Wii and 360 -- have seen increased interest from consumers now. I'm getting considerably more questions about all three of them than I was a month ago.
