SO and Ryse not own by MS, all others he listed are own by MS.

When a 3rd party developer develops a game exclusively for a platform, it's a first party game?

Its only first party if Microsoft owns the IP.

I've seen peole claim that games like The Wonderful 101, The Order:1886, and Heavy Rain are 1st party new IPs despite all of those games being developed by 3rd party studios.

Ahhh touche. I didn't even think about that.  Although I have seen people here say that The Order is 2nd party since Ready At Dawn isn't a Sony studio. Just that the IP belongs to Sony. That's why I've been asking these questions to clear things up. A lot of you have vast knowledge on these things already.

Yes, Sony has been using Ready at Dawn to create the PSP versions of their games. They finally got their shot to make a AAA IP. Sony uses initiation processes with companies they work closely with. If they make a hit Sony lets them join the family. Thats never good  for their competition. Sony has a great way of bringing up studios to work in their personal style and them bringing them in. Sony's top three in house studios alone have created (or been apart of) more hits than Microsoft could ever hope to create themselves.

And most annoying part is some people really keep ignoring MS new ips in this gen.

What a terrible thread.

Im not ignoring anything. I am extremely hyped for Scalebound, but have yet to see it. Once again...those are IP's created by third party and Microsoft owns the IP. The problem with Microsofts lasting ability to make games is that they cannot make games themselves. it would be more cost effective in the future if and they could literally choose how much they spend. Think about it.

Dantes inferno. EA was called out because it was essentially a reskinned god of war.

Oh I heard about that game before but didn't know it was published by EA. Thought a smaller publisher handled it considering how poor its sales were.

Haven't played it though but it totally looks like God Of War with a different protagonist, but far inferior.

Its not the first time either. Lucas arts also ripped of god of war which is why Star Wars the force unleashed was so great. It paved the way for western hack n slash. Star Wars 1313 was also an uncharted rip off. Look it up. You'll see it. People really overlook how influential Sony is in the industry.

Was Forza started created by a developer they owned? Hopefully that's 1.

I never thought of that before, how MS doesn't have a killer app that was created by their own developers.

Exactly. When we think critically about it, we start to see how truly different Microsoft is from the other two companies.

They really need to learn how to make their own ips. I will enjoy tomb raider but this is twice now.

Halo and gears are IPs that were bought from outside developers. If you look at the list of IP created or spawned from Microsoft owned studios the list Is rather paltry.

Bungie was bought by Microsoft. Not Halo

Bungie was bought solely for Halo. Microsoft was going to try to make them work on Halo for the rest of their natural lives and they decided to move on. Microsoft was like "Thats cool, as long as you give us time to build our own team and we can keep Halo".

People seem to forget that ReCore, Scalebound and Quantum Break are 1st party IP owned by MS, they are investing in new games that list also includes Ryse and Sunset Overdrive(when it comes to investing in new IP not 1st party).

Those games are only first party because they own the IP, but those games came from ideas outside of Microsoft. In most cases those companies went to Microsoft for funding and Microsoft either published it and kept the IP. As i've said before, they might own a lot of IP's but they've never been able to create a hit themselves outside of Forza and Fable.

You do realise that with your logic this means that Sony never created Little Big Planet, Infamous and Killzone? Killzone release 2004 Guerrilla games bought by Sony in 2005, Infamous release 2009 SuckerPunch bought by Sony 2011 and Little Big Planet release 2008 Media Molicule bought by sony in 2011 or did you forget?

Edit: I guess that this also includes Ratchet and Clank and Resistance since they are developed by a 3rd party dev.

So like 90% of Sonys big IP/Franchises.

For the most part, yeah. Add Twisted Metal, Warhawk, Pursuit Force, and Fat Princess to the list. Even PS All Stars Battle Royale, of all games, was developed externally.

Sony publishes games  a lot of games from third parties too, so I don't get what he's saying.
