Forums - Microsoft - The Parity Clause is dead, long live the Parity Clause!

"Titles for Xbox 360 must ship at least simultaneously with other video game platform, and must have at least feature and content parity on-disc with the other video game platform versions in all regions where the title is available"

For smaller titles, this can be got around by patches/dlc.

MS will hardly so no to a bigger title so EA, Ubi, Acti, etc probably just ignore/don't care about that clause.

And which PS3 game would have got any benefit from that? Oblivion? Which came out for X360 when the PS3 hadn't even launched and it looked better only because it was ported by an external studio that actually knows how to program (unlike Bethesda, that's it)?

What I heard all the time the last generation is that MS had yet another clause which dictated that games to be certified for X360 had to have at least the same content. This has been well known for years too. Actually, I do have the source as well:

"Titles for Xbox 360 must ship at least simultaneously with other video game platform, and must have at least feature and content parity on-disc with the other video game platform versions in all regions where the title is available"

Which games?  Off the top of my head, Bioshock, Eternal Sonata, Star Ocean, and Vesperia.  Pretty sure Mass Effect 2, as well.

isnt that what he is trying to say? besides Bioshock i dont think any of those games had anything added

Mass Effect 2 was released a year later with NO additions at full price so, i would like to know where people are getting this from

Incorrect.

That whole "now with DLC" was plastered on each copy I came across.  In fact, 360 owners complained about Bioware/EA never giving an ME2 Complete/Deluxe Edition for the 360 version at that price.

DLC that had already been released on the other console is addition? Thats an odd definition. By that time if one were to get a new copy of ME2 for 360 or PC with all the DLC it still would not come up to the 60 price tag of the PS3 version

if the 3 big publishers in the east are ignoring the clause then it really isnt a clause

*snore*  I actually trust...you know, the devs, over a person on a forum who's clearly not been paying attention for the past 10 years.

Well at least read what that person on a forum says and you will notice I say nothing that contradicts that article, even if it is from gamingbolt.

P.S. That's if you were replying to me. Sorry for my tone if not!

Nah, I was responding to Onyide, who's clearly ignoring all empirical evidence that supports the fact that Sony has a very similar clause.  The difference is, this isn't last gen, so Sony really doesn't need it.  Though, I wonder if Sony will require anything additional in the Tomb Raider game, after timed exclusivity ends.

Gaming Bolts may not be the best, but I was more pointing to the specific quotes from the dev, stating Sony has similar policies.

Ok, that's fine, I'm on your side then :).

Good point about the Gamingbolt article having dev quotes.

They all had added content.  That's why I listed them.

You seem to keep ignoring the exclusive (at the time) Genesis intro...
