Forums - General - Do classics games available for download cheapen them or enrich them?

So yeah do downloads of games from sources such as the virtual console...

1. Cheapen classic games by making them widely available or remind you that they were not actually that great.

 or

2. Enrich the classics by giving them a new lease of life and introduce them to a new audience.

Well I've downloaded some VC games that everybody was raving over, but turned out they kinds sucked. *cough Sin & Punishment cough Kid Icarus cough*

I think it really depends on the game.

Personally I would prefer to have the physical item, but of course it is not really possible to put a N64 cartridge in a Wii, so the VC is a great way to go, as well as a convenient way of replaying these classics. I also think the PS3-PSP remote play is a great way to play the PS1, cause then the graphical difference on your screen is not as noticeable, and also is adds more games to the PSP library

Neither. A game is not enriched or cheapened by being available for purchase. It is nothing but a good thing that these games have been made available to everyone again though. You can either relive a classic experience, or finally realize just how terrible those games really were back then. Playing through a lot of the old NES "classics" has given me a new found appreciation for just how far the industry has come.

That's how i feel.  Though there really aren't many NES games i still don't enjoy.

I think they're cheapened by playing them with controllers that are poorly designed for them.

Bump, for the night time users

It cheapens the prices of my old Square RPGs on ebay, otherwise, I love it :)

I've noticed something with the classics.

If I grew up playing them and loving them, I like the classic when I purchase it---whether on the ps3, 360, or Wii....

BUT If I download a classic I've never played because I've heard good things about it...I USUALLY HATE IT! I just can't get into the dated gameplay and poor graphics.

So I guess if there is no nalstalgia, then I don't like it.
