Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has passed away

I'm in shock. So sudden and 55 is such a young age.

R.I.P. Iwata.

I find it kinda odd that it took over a day to learn about this. Usually we find out just hours after someone has passed. Anyway, I didn't really agree with the direction he was taking Nintendo in, but still, it's sad to see someone go at such a relatively young age. He should have had another 30-40 years to enjoy this world and gaming.

Wow! Didn't see this coming. I'm still speechless and feeling bad. It's so strange, they said he was recovering... D=

RIP Iwata.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Phil Harrison for next president

Compared to the other executives in the industry (even Reggie) who seemed like simple businessmen, Iwata seemed to have a genuine passion for gaming. While Nintendo's recent years haven't been the best, people seem to forget that he helped Nintendo bounce back from the dreadful Gamecube era, and helped launch two of the biggest products the industry has ever seen.

He was bizarrely likeable. There was something endearing about the thick Japanese accent, the measured speech, and his undeniable enthusiasm. I'll miss him bringing the latest Nintendo news "directly" to me.

The industry needs more people who will take risks and go against the grain, even if it doesn't always work out. Hopefully, he'll be succeeded by someone who will maintain that attitude.

I agree with everything in this post. Many people seem to gloss over his biggest accomplishments and he deserves better.

Well this is upsetting, gaming lost a great man. He definitely deserves respect for his contributions to not only Nintendo but the industry as a whole. He will be remembered for his enthusiastic attitude, willingness to risk/innovate, moving Nintendo forward and his overall fun loving spirit. He was a true gamer and he will be missed, rest in peace Mr. Iwata.

Bile duct cancers are extremely bad in terms of survival rates. This us a sad day indeed iwata was truly a visionary.

I just found out that he passed. R.I.P Satoru Iwata.

Don't know if anybody posted this, but someone on GAF suggested making a book out of his Iwata's Asks interviews and raising money for cancer research. Sounds like a good idea. RIP

Yes, this is actually what Polygon posted:
