When I went to TGS 2008, they had a very strong presence there. Then, they were trying to establish themselves in Japan. Fast forward 7 years and it's clear, even to Microsoft, that Japan is not interested.

You went to TGS 2008? Cool!

Yes. I still have my photo albums.  I also went to E3 2011.

Wow! What games were announced in TGS 2008 and E3 2011 that you liked when it was released?

Did he speak Japanese?

No, it was translated as he spoke.  They also showed clips of NFL Fever 2002, which is hilarious.  Some people say he offended the Japanese by turning the keynote into an extended Xbox presentation, which in turn resulted in a negative first impression.  Kind of a theme for the Xbox brand, it seems.

Why the heck would the Japanese care about NFL Fever? Didn't they have any other games?

Lol, Bill Gates look likes half Japanese there in the picture, i didn't know people have invented adobe photoshop back then

Photoshop was released on February 25, 1990, but I get what you're saying. Bill Gates eyes look way too small.

They had other games but not a lot at that point, though I have no idea why they'd even bother bringing over an NFL game.  Maybe they were just showing everything they had, even if they weren't localizing it.

If you want to read an interesting article about it, try this:  http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-12-13-why-xbox-failed-in-japan

Honestly in TGS 2008 I was too busy flirting with the Japanese booth babes. I vaguely remember LBP, Killzone 2, Yakuza 3 and Biohazard 5 being displayed as well as the improved Advent Children movie by SE. Then I was distracted by the cosplay girls in the lobby... I was 21 I please understand!!!

As for E3 I met a few VGC members. I think his username was nightsurge... and I remember him specifically because he was like 5 feet tall. As for games Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3 were the games I wanted and eventually owned and loved. Dark Souls was another game but I never actually purchased. I also got to get my hands on the Vita... which was a big deal then because it wasn't released. The Wii U tablet was shown off but that was of no interest to me. The games I liked and purchased later then regreted were Zelda Sky-something for Wii and Stree Fighter X Tekken.

Here I am with the cast of Uncharted 2

This news doesn't make any sense. According to this photo on the internet, a lot of people went out to buy Xbox One in Japan.

Wait people actually still care about TGS... Haven't paid attention to it in years... Nothing new or original ever comes from that market anymore anyway.. Japanese gaming is the shadow of itself and it sucks but it hasn't moved me significantly in quite some time beside the very occasional bleep on the radar

How about no ?

Someone in the comments section posted this:

Claiming it was from last years event. This picture actually hurts to look at.

Wait really , lol, if it's me as the Event Orginizer i would have put a fake crowd there.

It's fake... That or they took it when most of the crowd had left...

This was the XONE space at TGS 2014.

Also, why do people act like this is the end of the brand? Wasn't Sony skipping the largest gaming expo in the world? Also, didn't Squeenix mention that they were going all out in that expo of all places?

If you were replying  in this comment it's mean you still care with Japanese games, Industry lol.

Sony skiping another one is not a big concern because SONY already satisfied with their consoles sales , and also gamescom wasn't a big event until last year, so no SONY consoles i guess gamescom will just be an empty shell the same thing will hapen this year.

And the Important thing of getting support of Japanese Industry is they usually have more fanbase around the world even with games that sold less. and japanese games is part of the culture of consoles because "consoles type of games born in Japan" where maybe it's seems not that important for Xbox fans who preefer "FPS games" a genre popular from PC.

It's too bad that Japanese gamers didn't embrace the Xbox brand.  This TGS could have had Microsoft showing off several AAA JRPGs if they had.  Now it's likely that most of the money that would have been poured into the Japanese gaming industry is being given to Western studios instead.
