The PSP, released in 2004 in Japan and 2005 worldwide, was Sony's first venture into the world of handheld gaming. Although not the winner of its generation, it was still an extremely successful system with a wide variety of 1st and 3rd party support, accumulating an impressive library of games. With 56 total million sellers in its arsenal, no one can deny its success.

Fast forward 7 years, and the 3DS releases as the first handheld of the 8th generation. Western support of handheld gaming systems has all but vanished, leaving Japanese developers to carry the weight. Currently with 39 million sellers after over 4 years on the market, the 3DS has built an impressive library of its own.

The question here is: will the 3DS end its life with more million sellers than the PSP did?

Yes it will.

The PSP has a few titles that are inches away from 1 million, so it'll probably end up with 60 million sellers. The 3DS though has plenty of newer titles with a lot of time to edge their way up until 1 million, +new releases like YW Busters, FE if, Dragon Quest VIII remake ( at least if it's getting localized), Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Pokémon mainline entry, YW 3, YW 3.5. It'll beat the PSP, but it will take a while for the titles close to one mill to edge their way to it.

Too bad PS lost the Monster Hunter series to Nintendo. The Vita could have sold more if it had that game. Now it's in Nintendo's court with Pokemon.

56 vs. 38.

Hmm, I dunno. I kinda doubt it, tbh.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

depends how much the 3DS life has it left in it. If we're talking at least 2+ years left, then it has a decent chance.

Well, in this generation, there are lots of consumers who buys games digitally compared to last generation. But since VGcharts doesn't count digital sales, maybe not. Especially how the NX might replace the 3DS soon.

So you think people still buys PSP games? and that Vgchartz are still tracking them? And how those games still have stock in stores?

Pocky Lover Boy!

I highly doubt it, but who knows.

I just realized I should have put this in Sales Discussion. Lol.

vgchartz is still tracking them though. Look at the software charts.  It's not much but it's there.
