While 999 has a better ending because is well, more conclusive, VLR is simply better in every other aspect. So VLR, no doubt. The dimension jumping skematic was simply brilliant. You?

I actually haven't played either yet. Although I'm on the verge of ordering 999 on Amazon just because it seems lke a game that was made for me (and if I like it I would undoubtably buy VLR later on, as well as ZE3).

If you played any visual novel game before, buy it.Hell, even if you like to read books, buy it.Its that good.Just some tips:Do try to play 999 first. If you play VLR first, you wont have much problem story wise, because it does an excellent job of explaining the plot points relevant from the first,  but that does give out most of the first one story. And the first can be played as a "standalone experience".So go for it.Even if you emulate the first one(which is harder to find) to play the second.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Will do! They have 999 in stock on Amazon for only $20, so it seems like a no brainer to me.

Well, I need to play the first 2. I heard a lot of good things about them... o:

Do it.It will be one of the best decisions of your life.At first, this game dosent seem much. After all, it is a visual novel, basically a book in a video game format. But when you start to play, it is simply magical. It starts to grab your atention, and before you know it, it never let it go.Virtues last reward is one of the only games that i genually lost track of time.I was at the ending of the game, and when i finished it, it was 4 am!This game is a must-play, even if you must emulate it(but please do try to buy it to support the franchise).I genually cried when i heard this news!

Alright, I'll def look into getting them. x )

I agree to all your points. And if some of you have an iOS-device: do yourself a favor and get "999: The novel" for it. It's no substitute for the DS-game (since all puzzles are gone), but it's a great addition, especially if you want to recap the story. The app has gorgeous graphics and als the flowchart where you can jump to certain points in any branch of the story:

999 has a better, more oppressive atmosphere too IMO (and I think I cried at the end), but yes, gameplay and alternative endings are better in VLR.

I loved the 2nd one so much. One of the best stories/characters/twists ever and even had really good feel moments. So glad this is coming out since I thought the story was going to be left unfinished because of poor sales in Japan.

Omfg !! Yes !
