Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony launches crowdfunding platform

So it would be better for consumers if a market analysis department in Sony got to decide what products Sony releases to market rather than consumers themselves?

No but having a multi-billion dollar corporation taking advantage of their customers trust, being their guinea pig, and using it to fund their projects isn't any better ...

Why not just get consumers do a free vote instead of the crap that Sony is pulling ?

What would people's views here be if these news was in regards to MS doing crowdfunding?

I would preffer to fund ms than someone who could just run with my money. As long as the terms are clear and I can reclaim money if they don't keep their promise I see no problem.

anyone is free to use their money as they want. Did you notice that almost everybody disagreeing is People that are always vocal against Sony, like yourself? If it was ms you would call them genious to see a new profitable venture.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

If this can help them make the games I really want then HELLLLL Yahh.

Here's a novel concept, if you don't support crowd funding companies, then don't crowd fund them. Sony aren't holding a gun to anyone's head making them support their employee's pet projects.

There is absolutely no harm in this existing, because no one is forced to support it. I don't get the outrage.

It's the principle of it that matters, not the option to whether or not to support it ...

A multi-billion dollar company needs to have standards and what Sony is doing isn't acceptable ...

you don't even understand what they are doing with this site, you can't read the language the terms are in

what a joke

WOW... predictable people being predictable... how self entitled people must be to think they know better, how do i spend the money i work to earn, than the one and only, I. or anyone else for that matter. If you don't support walk away, just don't attack others people freedom to do the opposite of what you do. Let them be stupid is what i say. I also say, let them be smart. And despite they are opposed sentences, they both apply to the supporters as do they apply to the haters. FREEDOM of choice is key here. Go my children and be free...

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

this is realy bad! sure the products look very interresting and should be on kickstarter or paid for by sony, but this system is bad, its anticonsumer and includes alot of moral hazard on sonys side.

so, explain to me what "the system" is? I'm pretty sure you have a false idea how the website works

hint: it doesn't work like kickstarter

Now, this is very interesting. How much I like it will depend on what happens downstream but the concept is pretty nifty.

Usually, your R&D people come up with stuff all the time. It goes up for approval and a lot of stuff gets turned down for being too much of a financial risk or for not projecting enough ROI. This is a normal process. We will probably never get to see a lot of cool might-have-been projects that got culled, not because they weren't awesome, but because some businessmen did not think they'd make the company enough money.

This has the potential to shift things a bit and allow the consumer to decide. That's intriguing.

people preorder a product thats just a concept and pay way before the product is tested and ready for market.

thats not good!  the risk is only on the consumer side...

i dont realy have a problem with the things sony has on their site, they look good!

but what if this concept will be adapted by other companys?   what if big 3rd party gaming companys use the same concept?
