I agree with you. I never played COD till COD 4, and it really became bad after BO2. I personally gave BO2 a 7.5/10, it was much better than alot of people said it too be, but it wasn't "wow wow" great. Ghosts however is really 4/10 material. It was plain crap, and looked horrible for a "next gen" game.

Half-Life, although I consider it more than a simple FPS.
Amongst "pure" FPS', I like Unreal Tournament for its levels, weapons and frantic pace.
