Forums - Nintendo - NX could be what people want Apple TV to be

I think that the NX console will use mobile processors much like Nvidia Shield. Right now you can get a shield console for 199.99.  By the time the NX launches you could probably release a console like this for 199.99 which is slightly more powerfull than the wiiu. It would support Android's programming langues to make it the first choice for indie dev's. Same first party games as on the NX handheld and a huge focus on lower cost 3rd party games. It would basically be what I have wanted Apple TV. At this pricepoint it could appeal to a very large audience of consumers.

Yeah, that's a winner for a 2016/2017 home console... the performance of a 2005 console (or slightly better).

It would be aiming for a different market then sony and microsoft. Much like how ipad and iphone have a very wide appeal. Core gamers would be interested in it for the exclusive games.  Nintendo with their artists are capable of making beatiful games at this level of power as we've seen in Mario 3d World, Wind Waker HD, and Mario Kart 8. I think when you are buying a second console for exclusives you prefer a lower cost.

i think the nx is definitely going to be a huge deal for nintendo embracing digital distribution models in an even more forward-thinking way than psn/xbox live. i think, judging from what they said at the dena/nx announcement, what they're trying to create is a digital platform like steam rather than a physical one. (this is also what microsoft is trying to do with windows 10 and xbox.)

That doesn't sound like it would really expand their market at all.

If NX is only marginally stronger than a WiiU then I dont know man... just sounds all round unappealing for ppl who clearly dont care about Nintendo hardware, traditional gamer of casual alike.

Casuals don't give a shit about power, Gameboy/DS/Wii/smartphones/tablets prove this.

I agree, I think things like Apple TV, Fire TV will be more of a competitor than Playstation/Xbox for Nintendo next-gen.

A $200 console and a $200 handheld that share a library is what I think they will go with.

that different market doesnt exist. I think you might be right but it will be a fail.

To be honest i dont see what nintendo could do now to make a really sucsessfull console again. The handhelt with power liker the wii u could be cool though but the home console will fail. People got those systems already (ps3/xbox 360/office laptops). And only exclusives will make it sell like wii u. I predict less sales as wiiu/3ds combined (if its handheld and console 2 in 1).

Even a powerfull console would fail if release 2017. The ps4/xbox one will have a huge advantage in theirs games library then.

If the console will have same power as ps4 it will be the same like wii u. People will get the way more erstablished ps4.

If if have more power it will be more expensive (with a smaller games library) and fail too. And people will still get the ps4 or wait for ps5 which will be again stronger as nx.

What nintendo need to do in my opionion. Do what sony does with ps3. Make it a "sucsess" even if nintendo will lose alot money. If they show the people that the wiiu is cool, get great games and third party support and co this will help the next console alot. If your previous console is a fail your next will fail to (as long you dont make a wii^^).

They need to make wii u something good with a good reputiation and then release their next console same years as ps5/new xbox but with more power and better price. Thats the only way i see them making a sucsess. I doubt they could do something similar as wii again.

do you think they're going to use the virtual console to differentiate themselves? this is already a pretty crowded space (nvidia as well, steam a little bit). as in: we have the nes, snes, n64, gb, gba, ds libraries and competitors don't?

i think one of the things they've quietly been doing is registering a lot of patents on emulation across various devices. i see that being a big part of their digital strategy (if they're smart).
