Forums - Nintendo - A way to make third party games sucsessful on wii u?

It's too late, and that honestly wouldn't help. It would take to many resources to port and would go against the art style chosen.

Just try again with the NX.

Its not just about graphics. Its a consumer perception that first/second party titles are superior coupled with the notion that third party muiltiplatform games are gimped on Nintendo platforms. Nintendo is perceived that way when it comes to third party games and its a far more complex problem than graphics.

Nintendo gamers have a no relationship, or in a lot of cases a negative relationship, with 3rd party developers. It would take a lot of effort from 3rd parties to win these consumers back after decades of disregard. I don't see this happening. The userbase is too small for 3rd parties to care when they have a faithful following elsewhere.

This is why Nintendo is moving to their unified platform strategy. You shouldn't expect anything from 3rd parties on current or future Nintendo consoles.

Wow. Most wii u owner and console owner in general are casuals who dont care if anything is third first or whatever party. Im sure 9 out of 10 mio wii u owner dont "hate" ubisoft or ea or whatever, their games just dont appeal to them.

Many of my rl-friends who got mostly  got a ps4/pc dont even know that games like splatoon or even games like mario kart made by nintendo. The majority of people dont buy games because of its publishers, that bs. There is no "bad relationship".

Wii U/Nintendo console only owners are just not interested in realistic looking games. Thats because they are young (kids do look cartoony movies not realistic ones right) or just personal preference. People who want realistic looking games just get a ps4/xbox one.

All those big AAA Blockbusters will never sell near as many copies on nintendos systems as on ps/xbox. Even when nx is easy to port it wont happen.

Well, that may be true to some extent. But the thing is that Nintendo still sell a decent amount of 3rd party games, even if it's mostly on their handhelds. Ironically, I think most companies don't sell as well on Nintendo because their reluctancy to localise their games. If companies like Square Enix, Sega, Namco-Bandai and other japanese publishers took their time to establish their titles to western audiences, they would improve a lot their sales, specially with well-known brands (Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, SMT...).

You know it deserves the GOTY.

So you want them to entirely remake the game solely for the Wii U?

Yeah, that ain't gonna happen. If they aren't selling enough to be profitable there at the moment spending a vast amount of money remaking the game and redoing the graphics just for one console is gonna do nothing but make them significantly less profitable.

doubt it would be expensive. Like i said, if even a hobby modder can retexture twilight princess in cell shaded graphics (and it does look good) a professionel dev team wouldnt had much problems either. Doing a port is ALOT harder, or did you ever see any hobby modder doing a port? It wouldnt be much more effort but the result in terms of sales would be alot higher

There is no solution. WiiU customer base is comprised of two types of people: people who also have another console to play 3rd party games, and people who don't play 3rd party games.
Nintendo has successfully marketed all its consoles as child/family friendly, and with exception of a select few adult fans that keep supporting it, managed to paint itself into a corner once that child/family market moved away from TV-based gaming toward portability.
I doubt that Nintendo is willing to switch gears and start marketing to adults, and thus will never attract 3rd party AAA support.

yeah thats pretty much the "problem" i wanted to solve.

Make the AAA titles attractive for the family/kids audience which is on wii u.

So what do you want? That after cell-shaded Altair slits an enemies's throat instead of blood he will bleed rainbows and candy?

Are you serious? Just no blood at all wtf. Please think a little bit on yourself....rainbows wtf

People who want third party games are very happy with their Playstations and XBoxs. There isn't really a need in the market for a third console that does the exact same thing, except for a small group of Nintendo fans that want the same thing plus Nintendo games.

Nintendo needed to have fought harder against Sony/MS in the past to not allow them to have become so entrenched in their market positions.

Since it's too late to change it now, Nintendo may as well try to make NX very unique/different. It's their only play left now.

Maybe they can sign a deal with a couple of the bigger publishers to ensure support for a little while. I'd target Square-Enix and EA. Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, FIFA, Madden NFL, NHL, Star Wars ... would at least be a decent mix of third party content even if literally no one else supported the machine but Capcom with Monster Hunter and the regular 3DS support.

Thats not 100% true. There are third party games selling good on wii u.

Disney infinity 2.0 sales:

Wii U: 0,47 Mio

Ps4: 0,39 Mio

Xbone: 0,26 Mio

Skylander Trap Team:

WiiU: 0,5 Mio

Ps4: 0,3 Mio

Xbone: 0,23 Mio

Rayman Legends:

Ps4: 0,55 Mio

WiiU: 0,5Mio

Xbone 0,21 Mio

You see. Cartoony and rated E games doing even better on wii u as on other 8thgen consoles. Because thats what the audience want. Nintendo games are selling so amazong because they are AAA cartoony games. An cartoony Assassins creed could easily sell 2mio lifeteam.

I bet most Wii U owners would jump in to buy a Japanese third party game, instead of a Western one.

MH3 = Best selling third party game besides Hyrule Warriors (come on) and Zombi U's unprofitable ass.

I wouldn't blame them though, I'd rather go for a nice Tekken port instead of a broken Splinter Cell.

This. Eastern developers have been the ones supporting Nintendo the most since the beggining of the gen. I hope that, by the time the NX releases, Ninteno has reinforced their relations with eastern 3rd parties and indies so they can have a decent first year lineup.

they need the core AAA games from Square Enix.  SF, RE from Capcom.  that would be a good start. NIntendo should really try to lure those big games.

games like tomb raider or deus ex wouldnt do anything. kingdom hearts would do well though. thats also kind off what this topic is about
