A7: Iwata: We can't talk about the NX. If we do, competitors may take our ideas and customers won't be surprised.
Lmao. Too bad he's probably right.

Customers won't be surprised? What does he mean by that?

Nintendo's been saying that for some time, don't read too much into it.

Don't expect a Capcom level buy out, Japanese goverment might not even let them, that's why Nintendo doesn't own Bandai.

If they buy anybody its small time like the late Imageepoch.

Yeah, I heard corporate buyouts are difficult and problematic in Japan, but it ensures at least that the companies stay in japanese hands.

However, they might just buy one or several IPs, although that's a pretty rare thing to happen in the industry.

Well I hope they do keep supporting the Wii U at least till 2017. But from the way he said it, it seems like satisfying Wii U customers wasn't even a priority for them.

He specifically said that satisfying WiiU owners is their priority, lol.

No, I meant satisfying Wii U customers wasn't their priority before.

It means no standard console :/

He means that you can't play poker while showing your hand to everyone on the table. Nintendo tends to take a third option all the time and revealing that one too soon may just be a bad idea.

Also, surprises tend to intrigue and get people interested. Just check last E3 presentation, it was meh not just due to the games shown, but also because there where no big surprises.

Not so sure. I mean, after the Wii and Wii U, having a "standard" console would actually equal a huge surprise, don't you think?

It honestly doesn't need to be a full blown buyout. A controlling stake in the company would be good, too. I'm sure the Japanese government wouldn't fuss over that.

I also think the times are much different now. They denied Nintendo Bandai at a time when Nintendo was on top of the world. Now Nintendo isn't, so it appears much less threatening.

You really think, considering how Nintendo talks about literally anything, that that is the case?

You think Nintendo would be worries about Sony and Microsoft stealing their "suprising" idea of a PS4/XBO clone? No.

It would still be unfair to competitors and that's what matters, the won't care if its an Apple size company or an Imageepoch size company.

Buying stake is a good idea though, Level 5 is the company to go Yokai Watch is potentially a evergreen title but Level 5 is Level 5ing it, Nintendo should try to control that.

I believe they already own stock on Bamco, buying some on Squeenix should be on their list of duties, and Capcom why not.

I don't know if it would be. Considering where Nintendo is right now, it would level the playing field. But you are right, the ripples of such a buyout would be significant. But Apple is much bigger than Capcom. Why wouldn't they care about that?

Either way, I think the attempt is worth a shot. There's no denying how huge it would be for Nintendo if it worked out. Again, it would be Disney-Marvel tier. But even if not, there are other western companies Nintendo should be eyeing as well, as they frankly need a big western division far more than they would benefit from owning Capcom.
