[Woohoo, triple post. I blame Reggie.]
| gamerdtr said: Relating to what Reggie said about Microsoft...of course he would badmouth a rival company! And a far as profit is concerned, Sony took less than a year to get out of the red but Microsoft took more than a year before it got out of the red (Sony released a financial report and Halo 3 got Microsoft out of the red). I am not bashing XBOX 360 but I really get pissed when people call the PS3 a failure even if the numbers indicate otherwise. |
The PS3 is a failure relative to expectations, which was that it would be winning - not just winning the competition for second. Also we know for a fact that the PS3 is still losing money, Sony has said as much. They have said they want to make money on the PS3 by, actually I forget when, was it the end of 2009? Sometime in the future anyway. They aren't making money on it yet. The PS2 and PSP are what bought SCE into the black, not the PS3.

The PSX is the original playstation, the PS1 is the 'slim' model. At least I'm pretty sure thats the way it went. The PS2 was announced before the Xbox and I think that around that time MS might have seen the potential threat to its business, the PS2 boasted some multimedia capabilities (the DVD player in particular) that might have seemed threatening. Even if they didn't see the threat then (which I still believe they did) they have still helped to fend it off now that it is apparent that it is a threat. The dethroning of the Playstation is a victory for MS. |
No, this is the PSX. :P
Edit: And this is what it looks like.
i think the xbox will end up being successful for them next gen (note, im not saying it will have been an overall profit through all systems). it was meant to disrupt sony, but it ended up giving them a fanbase. this gave ms a product that connects with the masses unlike windows which is just used by everyone. the more time goes on, the more i realize they need it in order to adapt.

Original Playstation was called Playstation,...EDIT: Makingmusic beat me. :P.
On the subject, he was asked a question, he answered, good for him. My answer would have been similar.
Hmm, pie.
Wow, I just looked that up and found out why the original playstation was nicknamed the PSX. Playstation Experimental eh...
So yeah, I had never heard about the other PSX but I was right that the original PS1 was called the PSX by people.

can someone please close the Rock-on account? I mean this is viral marketing at its most pathetic.
oh, and please buy a ps3 and not a wii.

I don't like Reggie , but I think from the point of view of a shareholder he has taken his statement was correct.

From a business perspective, the 360 is the biggest money leech in existance. It, with the Zune, made a 500,000,000 "profit" in what is probably its most profitable year ever, and that includes from here on out, and that doesn't include the 1,000,000,000 dollar cost of the RRoD.
I know your smart enough not to fall for MS spin though, so lets assume you know the 360 was a bad business decision, and instead your problem is with Reggie saying it.
Well, it's the same thing as when the idiot asked Jaffe why Miyamoto said cars shouldn't shoot guns and Jaffe fired back at Miyamoto, to his eternal disgrace. A retarded question from a retarded press agent, designed to get a controversial response, and everyone gets all pissy when they hear it, like it was Reggies fault.
If you ask me, I think he fielded the question rather respectfully.
What say you? |
I actually thought personally that xbox was a fantastic business decision, in expanding the Microsoft name. Financially, it hasn't been that successful, but as a goodwill, it was MONSTEROUS.
now, that's not to say it won't turn the corner, it has, and I see xbox brand making money for Microsoft for years to come.
In that aspect, I disagree with Reggie, but that's not why I was disappointed with his comment.
Whether is Reggie, Jaffe, or Miyamoto, all of them are great at what they do and they should STICK to that, making those comments make them look childish and fanboy-ish.
What Reggie should've said is that "xbox is a good competition, but at Nintendo, we....... and we are doing the best for OUR shareholder". I wish they all took Politic 101
