Forums - Gaming - Sony: We like to have a balance of sequels and risky concepts in first party portfolio

How is Horizon a risky concept?

There werent sure how the female heroine was going to be recived, and also because this will be (as far as I know) their first Western RPG.

But Sony does have diversity. Perhaps more so than even Nintendo.

I don't think so, but they are convincing me in buying a PS4, and I'm a Ninty fanboy xDDD. That's the way to go, a diverse first party lineup, with classic franchises and risky new concepts. I think they are getting it right this gen, and if they're going in the same way, I will give Sony a shot.

Well the formula Sony's got going right now seems to be working so keep it up!

Uncharted 4 seems to be eclipsing the other Uncharted games from what I can see, so it's definitely good to end things on a high! People need to know when to stop. Some things never really should stop, like Zelda and GTA. But some things do need to come to an end.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

New IP.

Do you saw what happened with new ips this gen? The Order, Sunset Overdrive, etc... most flopped... the exceptions were Destiny, Bloodborne and maybe Watch Dogs.

Are you serious ? Guerilla making a RPG, a Female heroin fighting dino robots in a new IP open world is not a risky concept for you ?

It's highly risky, i dont think microsoft would allow 343i to make an open world RPG

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

This sounds like a pitch every Hollywood studio would fund in a heartbeat. I mean seriously, pitch that to any gamer and he would be all in.

I mean even I would play it if it wasn't on the wrong platform and I usually hate every game.

And that's the best strategy, the customers are responding very positively. Much better than getting caught in an endless loop of a few IPs getting sequelized ad nauseum.
I must admit that I am always much more excited for new Sony IPs (except Uncharted, of course), especially now with Horizon, Until Dawn, TLG...

Yep I had a 360 all last gen but I noticed Sony was doing this and switched to PS4 partly because of it. I like new IP's and I want to see new ideas even if they end up sucking it's still worth a try. Don't get me wrong Gears of War is great but after I finsihed #3 I was done and the game was tired  at that point. I wish MS would have taken more chances like with Alan Wake which was an amazing game.

Well, you and I are the same then. The only difference that I didn't really like Alan Wake.

But I loved and played hundreds of hours of Left 4 Dead.

Slightly off topic, but Alan Wake was interesting for me. My friend was hyped for it and got the game, then he ended up letting me play and beat it while he basically just watched. I had a lot of fun with it, and I'm definitely disappointed that it was left to die.

Yea it's funny cause I kind of made fun of people who watch that twitch stuff (other than to just get an idea of a how game is) until I realized I essentially did the same thing with my cousin playing RPGs. I watched him play Zelda, Chrono Trigger, and some other RPGS. He also watched me play some other RPGs or other games.
