Thats correct. Swapping HDD's in the PS4 is about as simple as it gets. Sony even has detailed instructions available directly from them on how to do the upgrade.

I put a 1TB Samsung SSD in my PS4 day one, and depending on the power savings and noise of the this model, I will probably end up doing the same thing again. Day one may be able to retire to the less demanding bedroom spot quite soon.

Ya, I was holding out for a 1TB PS4, but I might just buy a 500GB and swap a 2TB in.  It feels like a waste to just remove a brand new 500GB HD though...

I bought a portable Seagate external (2TB), put the 2TB in the PS4, and then put the PS4 HDD into the external housing. So for like $80 I got a 2 TB drive for my PS4 and a 500 gb external drive.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Why isn't this 1 TB instead? It only costs a few dollars more to up it to 1 TB, so they'd still do well at 399. Microsoft did this, and it seems to work very well for them.

Not trying to be noesey but how does THIS make the XB1 seem more appealing now????

Yeah pretty silly comment. It uses less power and is quieter, but apparently that makes the XBO more appealing....lol

It just threw me off.....sadly I never got a response to my question eitehr lol

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

Some new information. Thanks to GAF for the translation:

New power supply ADP-200ER replaced ADP-240CR and is 80g lighter.
New BD drive.
New 8Gb GDDR5 chips (Samsung K4G80325FB-HC03)
New main board SAC-001 replaced SAB-001 and has 60mm less width.
The APU CXD90037G remains the same.

Following chips existed at previous models are now missing:
- Fujitsu USB 3.0-SATA bridge
- Marvell Ethernet LSI
- Genesys Logic USB 3.0 hub controller LSI

The secondary processor CXD90036G has direct connection to all of them (the guy speculates Sony may have eliminated USB3.0 - SATA conversion).

HDMI transmitter is MN864729 by Panasonic.

Boot system LSI is changed to A00-C0L2 (there seems to be some new patent regarding system control)

Blu-ray drive control subboard is now missing and controller LSI R9J04G011FP1 & motor driver BD7764MUV are now on mainboard.
Cooling fan remains the same (KSB0912HE).

Heatsink's base is changed from aluminum to steel.
The heatpipe existed at heatsink's base remains, but one existed at aluminum fins is now missing.

The PS5 Exists.

They already announced a 1tb model. I know your not a Sony fan, but it's everywhere.

"The new models, numbered C UH-1215A and CUH-1215B, are variations of the same model, with the difference essentially being the hard drive size. While the CUH-1215A variant has a 500GB HDD, the CUH-1215B version has a 1TB hard drive."

Look like one of the big features is noise reduction:
I don't know if any of you noitced by mand did they shrink the motherboard.

Those are in Europe, not NA. Its still only 500 GB in NA.

I think the are being smart and are waiting for the COD or Star Wars bundle to release the 1TB version. That way it makes a bigger impact. I'm going to go with COD as they want to get COD customers to switch over, why not tempt them with a nice 1TB version, the first in the US?

This sounds like they found ways to reduce the price of the PS4.... by designing it to be cheaper.

Yep. They're clearly sitting on a price drop and are just waiting for the perfect time to do it.

@GribbleGrunger
That is the right way to do a price cut.... by designing things cheaper, instead of haveing it eat into profits on each units sold.

(ontop of that they better it, less power/noise & better buttons)

Its good, its going to benefit buyers once they do a price cut.

Does anyone know how this new model compairs to the Xbox One? with power usage/noise/heat ?
