Forums - Gaming - Why haven't Sony or MS copied Wii Play?

I don't think the consumers would be all too impressed if MS and Sony started to outright copy everything Ninty does, they are also targeting very different demographics. What works for Ninty may turn into shit for MS/Sony, and just trailing after the current market leader like a driveling dog would make the two monoliths look weak and washed up.
Also, I don't think neither MS nor Sony really have much faith in the Wii's long lasting appeal and value as they have made pretty clear on many occassions.
I know Harrison spoke well of the Wii, but then again, he's no longer with Sony and needs some allies to help him save Atari from the "red dragon" (bad numbers).

Here's the problem with copying Wiiplay if you're Sony or Microsoft imo. To date, Microsoft and Sony still try and dispute Wii's success by suggesting it's gimmicky, or it will fail, etc. etc. Now, we could debate that point all day, but the issue is, if Microsoft and Sony start copying Nintendo's ideas, doesn't that simply serve to validate Nintendo's methods? Sure they might sell some units, but it might cause some people to perceive Nintendo's actions in a more positive light, if they're worth stealing.

Sony would never copy Nintendo... *cough Sixaxis*

its in the makings.

Need people to play online with me for Brawl.

Name is DROAK.

The big problem is Wii Play's strength was to introduce people to the Wiimote. There's no real equivalent on the X360 or PS3.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

I think they are just going for a different market.

Sony has Eyes of Judgement and WarHawk bundles. And in case you haven't noticed, they aren't selling as hot as Link's cross-bow.

PS360 is slowly starting to have completely oppose gamers. What worked on Nintendo, doesn't mean it will work automatically on PS360.

Warhawk is online only... lots of people don't even have their consoles hooked up to online.

As for eye of judgement... it's a scam.  I mean, not really, but it's a trading card game.  Which is pretty close to a scam as far as i'm concerned.  You gotta keep pumping money in to be good.

Also i've heard mostly negative things about EOJ.

Pride? Sony? That's the most hilarious thing I've heard in a week! XD Hahahahaha!

Oh, and I'm sure they'll copy it eventually. Just wait till next gen, I can't WAIT to find out how Sony are gonna announce their new incredibly easy-to-use, casual, motion-sensing console.

Because Wii Play in and of itself sucks monkey balls. It only sells well because of the bundled controller.

That's the whole point. Why doesn't Sony bundle a controller with some monkey balls?

You made a good joke! A very good one!!!!

Gongratulations stof. May this be the first of many to come.

Yeah, and i'm sure that's why they decided to go with the Sixaxis after Nintendo announced the Wii controller.
