Sony: 'PS Vita is not dead, there are hundreds of games coming'

By Mark LangshawFriday, Jun 19 2015,

The PlayStation Vita was shunned entirely during Sony's E3 2015 presentation but the company is adamant that the handheld console is not dead.

PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan told Gamespot that the system is still selling well and has "hundreds" of games in development.

"No, not at all," he said, when asked whether it is the end of the line for the Vita.

"We're still selling respectable quantities. We have a hundred games in development, and you might say, 'Well yeah but they're all indie games', but many of these games review very highly. Also the PS4's Remote Play feature is something that is valued a lot."

Ryan went on to say that the handheld market still exists, despite the rise of tablet and smartphone gaming taking a huge bite out of it.

"There's no disputing that it's not the size it used to be. It's a much smaller market than when the DS and PSP were in their glory days. But that market still does exist," he added.

Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida reiterated during E3 that the Vita is unlikely to play host to any more triple-A first-party games during its lifespan.

I'm not convinced. The 3DS is killing it and it is selling at the same level as the Wii U, a console that has little 3rd party support, huge game droughts, and that is so badly marketed that many people don't know that it isn't the same thing as the Wii.

Yeah but nintendo is investing real money for games for the wiiu, sony isnt wasting money for first party titles anymore thats the difference that the vita can still live on its own.

I wish Sony would bring back some of the classic PSP games like LocoRoco or Patapon to the Vita.

I can get why they don't want to spend a lot of money making Vita games anymore with how its selling, but I can't imagine games like these taking a lot of money to develop, but of course I could be wrong.

It makes me sad because I truly think the Vita could be a successful handheld if Sony just supported it more with proper games.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Its funny to see a statement about Nintendo covering Wii U failure and Sony covering Vita failure.

A handheld gamer only (for now).
