Would people buy a Wii U in 2016 for Zelda and Pokken fighters, if they know in 2017 a new console is coming?

It seems to me that Nintendo will be releasing two of its biggest games in the holydays of the fourth year of its console, almost fifth year.

Couldnt there be the risk that people who would otherwise get a Wii U will not get it because they know in the Holydays of 2017 a new console (that may be backwards compatible with Wii U games) will be coming?

It seems to me like Nintendo should have had their biggest sellers earlier. The Wii U Zelda game probably took them half a decade.

Probably... Nintendo isn't gonna announce a new console in 2016 that will release in 2017 if they are going to release Zelda U in 2016 for the wiiU... That would hurt the sales with virtually zero positive affects so no one will really know for sure that a new console will release in 2017 other than pure speculation and rumours

Depends on whether or not the new console has backwards compatibility. If not, then yes they will buy it because the Wii U has an excellent backlog of games. If the next console has BC, then probably not. People don't buy consoles for a single game.

next year they will release Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, Zelda and Pokken Fighters. What else could they release?
Metroid will not be made for Wii U, I dont think an F Zero would be good when Wii U doesnt have any controller with analogue triggers, and Shinen's game Fast Racing Neo is a decent replacement.

I think the Pokemon Company and Gamefreak talked against making a new Pokemon Snap.

What else could they be making? Diddy Kong racing? a new Wave Race? some small title like a new Sin and Punishment?

it needs a price cut to begin with. then they need another AAA besides Zelda U to make a strong line up to all Nintendo core gamers. NX as of the moment is too vague and anything can happen. year 5 would be almost non-existent to the Wii U if NX is about to released during that year. so price cuts is a must moving forward and a good bundle for Zelda U.

Every nintendo console launch should have a 3D mario and a zelda game.

Needs to drop the gamepad and sell it as a accessory.

I might be wrong but I still think Nintendos´next console will be revealed and released next year (like PS4/XboxOne). Zelda U and Pokken fighters(has this even been announced for console?) will both get the TP treatment with pokken maybe NX exclusive.

Nothing wrong with Nintendo launching a replacement console in 2017. That's five years, that's standard and the Wii U is selling like dog poop so it doesn't deserve a 6 year cycle, that should be reserved for hugely successful platforms or extremely future proof systems. Wii U qualifies as neither.

So you should know that if you're buying a console in its 4th/5th year from launch and then you're going to sit there like a dummy acting shocked that a new system is coming ... that's your fault. Not Nintendo's.
