Forums - Nintendo - The NX is confirmed to be a home console. (not that it needed any confirmation)

Possibly.

That would be a pretty close release between both handheld and console.

Not when you think of them as a part of a singular platform instead of individual consoles. Then it's functionally the same as releasing the N3DS in January and the N3DS XL in June.

Here we go. this is the picture I was looking for. This was shown at the same time that the NX was announced. It was one of the slides during the conference. As can be seen, Nintendo doesn't seem to see the NX as a Wii U or 3DS replacement. Rather, it seems obvious that the intention is to supplement their current hardware lineup with some unifying piece of hardware that will likely lead into their next generation of gaming hardware. Basically, it can be seen as being intended to be supplemental rather than any kind of full replacement.

If it was intended to be a straight up home console, it would be made as a Wii U replacement. Nintendo isn't going to pull a dumb move like trying to support three dedicated devices at the same time, but they also didn't seem ready to accept the idea of phasing out their current hardware during the initial announcement in March.

No, they put the NX there because it looks neat. In that arrangement. The Prime director literally said that Prime 4 would skip the Wii U for the NX. That's a replacement, no matter how Nintendo wants to phrase it. That picture isn't implying what you're saying. It's just outlining the new membership program's relationship to other devices. Nothing more.

I just want Nintendo to go all out with NX. Hopefully the taste of failure has pissed them off enough to bring their A game. E3 simply confirms that after Zelda U, Wii U will probably die. For Nintendo to talk about this so early, they know Wii U is about to jump ship too. Can't wait to hear more about it next year. Seeing that Wii U will be 4 years old by next year, they'll tease NX in 2016, and release in 2017/2018. Hope you win your bet.

You seem to be really confused on the wording of what the Prime director said. He said he wanted to make Prime 4  and that it would take too long dealing with the Wii U now. He then said it would likely end up on what he believed to be Nintendo's next gen gaming console which is currently speculated to be the NX. Considering the NX is likely still very hush hush outside of R&D and Nintendo heads, I have a hard time accepting that this guy who doesn't even seem to be an active Nintendo game developer anymore is somehow in the know.

My prediction is that it'll release in 2016 though

If that means no fusion, hybrid, zombie, or whatever console then I'm all for it.

Same here.

I hope they have a separate home console and a separate portable console like they always have.

Why? Wouldn't you prefer to have to buy only one system that does all of this?

You're literally making stuff up, now. He's one of the head directors at Nintendo. He is a Nintendo head. That's like saying that Aonuma doesn't know what the NX is yet. And what do you mean he isn't active? He's produced at least five games in the last 5 years.

NX = console, portable.

Whatever you want.

Nintendo can't have separate platforms going forward it's just logistically impossible.

Wiiu replacement, but still a tablet style controller?
Who knows? I'm just speculating. I still think a tablet makes the most sense

your evidence doesn't support your claim.

sony also publicly stated they are working on their next console,.. that doesn't mean that ps4 is being replaced next year. R&D can span 3-6 years. stating that are working on a home console doesn't provide any evidence that NX is a home console.

edit: evidence your claim is baseless.

Checkmate.

I'm skeptical of you're claim spemanig why couldn't Prime director be talking about Metroid Prime on future 3DS successor? Isnt the 3DS a handheld CONSOLE? HAs Nintendo ever referred to a handheld as a console too? I'm sure that 3DS successor and Wii Us are 2 different  things but the fusion aspect is similar OS.http://www.cnet.com/news/miyamoto-were-on-to-the-3ds-successor/ this link in my view somewhat shows a hint of a distinct seperate device
