Forums - Nintendo - The NX is confirmed to be a home console. (not that it needed any confirmation)

Wouldn't that limit what they could do with a console Zelda? Like, imagine Zelda U having a 3DS version of the same game. If they wanted to make it so you can have an identicle expierence on both platforms, the Wii U version would need to be downgraded a lot (Similar to how the Ice Climbers were cut from SSB4 altogether because they couldn't get them on the 3DS, even though they were working on the Wii U).

The N3DS is capable of running XBC. Hyrule Warriors is playable. It wouldn't limit anything. Especially on a system specifically designed for that kind of thing.

It wouldn't be an identical experience, it would be a similar one. Smash on 3DS is different from Smash on Wii U, even though they are effectively the same game. Borderlands on Vita isn't identical. Bioshock on mobile isn't identical.

The NX version wouldn't be downgraded at all. The handheld version would be scaled down from the console version, not the other way around. The omission of the Ice Climbers is insignificant. If that's the extent of the "downgrades" for the home console versions, we'll be more than fine.

=

Not doing in this console called Wii U but if they start it will end in the next console codenamed NX.

Psh. He could have meant handheld console. He wasn't clear. He didn't specifically say home console, so what he really meant is totally up in the air!

Assuming that he meant that the 4th mainline sequel to a trilogy of home console games would appear on another home console is baseless speculation, and I'll have none of that! Lala Lala La La! I can't hear you!

Fils-Aime: The time frame that these systems are sold is quite long, and right now we’re still at the very early stages of the current generation. The other piece I would highlight is this is a global business. Don’t just look at what’s happening here in the U.S. Look at what’s happening globally.

From a Nintendo perspective, we clearly have strength here in the Americas, we have strength in Europe and we have strength in Japan. That isn’t necessarily true of some of our more direct competitors. We’ve also said publicly that we are already hard at work on our next home console and that’s another element we’ll be talking about much later.

Good. Now people can stop trying to convinced themselves that it's just a 3DS successor or some kind of "third pillar." It's not. It's exactly what everyone should have thought it was when it was first announced.

Now all we need is confirmation that there is an NXDS to go along side it, and I will officially win VGChartz.

But Iwata himself referred to it as a third piller earlier this year.

No he didn't. That's litarally made up bullshit pulled out of somebody's ass. Iwata never said anything that even remotely implied a "third pillar" approach. That's just people trying to manipulate an easy to understand quote about how the NX isn't mearly a simple upgrade. Which it's not. It's a part of a unified platform. It's not a simple upgrade. It's a complicated upgrade. All he was saying. Nothing, nothing at all, about a "third pillar."

can still be the fusion/hybrid thing

I know, but I don't expect the HBM price to drop that quickly. I want it, but.. I don't know. The especification of the console is pretty much finished already; the games are in development.. Let's say Nintendo is using AMD Zen architecture. Officially, Zen uses DDR4 and not HBM (there are rumours of a new Zen with HBM) - I'm no certain of that so don't quote me on that. To cut expenses, I think they are going to use 2015 technology (or early 2016).

One thing is for sure, they are interested in HBM.

Based on what? Watch Nintendo use mobile ARM part with a cheap AMD GPU. Truth is they're not even using the Wii U's power on like 80% of their games, I doubt they're going to magically jump to something 5-7x more powerful than a Wii U. I'd expect something more modest.

Ya I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see a GC to Wii sized leap for Wii U to NX.

Why is that a problem?

People can play semantics all they want, but it's pretty clear now that the references to NX, next console and what Metroid Prime 4 would be on are referring to a home console of some kind, and a successor to Wii U .

Part of this is hopefulness, but I honestly think it is going to be something to target the western core gamer and it will involve AMD's SoC news from last year. Iwata saying they need to work better on the West and Miyamoto's comments about core gamers being more dependable lead me to think NX will target this audience . The DeNA initiative on mobile , meanwhile , will target the more casual customer with titles like Pokemon and Animal Crossing . All of these gaming options being connected by Nintendo's new accounts .
