Forums - Sony - PS3 GTA 4 looks (slightly) better than 360 version in some parts?

I know its a port, just not a cheap port which sucks like rainbow six on the ps3.

Well yeah, it IS nice to know that PS3 owners will get to experience the game the way the devs intended, and not some shoddy "gimme your 60 bux and hell if I care if your game even works" port

The differences will probably be very minor. But the good thing is that big multi platform games are now starting to look better on the PS3. Last year multi platform games looked slightly better on 360, now that is changing. Burnout Paradise, DMC4 and now GTA4 all look better on the PS3. As time goes on, this gap will only increase.

360 may have been the lead platform but that doesn't make the PS3 version a port. When one version is only a week or two behind the other because it's harder to develop, that's called "co-development". That doesn't necessarily mean that they'll be equal (Assassin's Creed was co-developed) but in this case, it looks to be the case.

Yeah I think the problem is most developers aren't willing to delay a game 6 months just so that the PS3 version can look as good as the 360 one. Most developers simply don't have money to burn like that. It's too bad the PS3 isn't more like a PC/360 so developers didn't have to waste money like that.

Not all developers have to delay because of the PS3 version. CoD4 wasn't delayed, neither were, Burnout, DMC4 etc, and the PS3 version are on par or look better than the 360 version. A lot of people on this site say that Rockstar are great developers but rubbish at coding/programming.

PS3 version = shaper images/warmer colors
360 version has better colors.

With Grand Theft Auto IV due out at the end of next month, Take-Two has suggested what developers Rockstar will be doing with all their free time.

According to Gamasutra, executives in a conference call with investors first noted that the studio would be first be working on GTA IV downloadable content - exclusive to the Xbox 360 - available through until 2009. Take-Two also said that both the 360 and PS3 version of the game be visually almost identical, with the PS3 coming out slightly on top in some areas. "

Awsome for PS3 owners finally its not a cheap port.

I think the one difference I heard in... I think it was an IGN preview... was that the PS3 had slightly better anti-aliasing. Which is strange, considering the level of "free" anti-aliasing the 360 gets.

 Yes, they did say that.

I have a question that someone here might be able to answer. I went to look at the Gamasutra link that is part of that story and I didn't see anywhere in it where they mention Take Two as saying: "PS3 coming out slightly on top in some areas". Did I miss it or is there another story at Gamesutra about the conference call with that comment in it?

I think the colors comment was also from IGN... and I think they're wrong on that one. All of those games that review sites say are washed on the the PS3 compared to the 360 look practically identical on my TV after I turn on RGB (full) on the PS3 - and that's on the same input via an HDMI switch. ATI and nVidia just use different default color levels and on different inputs you can easily make the PS3 and the 360 look exactly the same when it comes to color intensity and brightness/contrast.

You're right they don't say that anywhere in the link. Where did Palgn come up with the quote?

Levine Still On BioShock 2, AAA Rockstar Sequel In 2009, New Payne?

In its call with investors following its Q1 results, Take-Two execs confirmed that BioShock producer was still involved in the 2K Marin sequel, that 2009 would bring another sequel to a triple-A Rockstar game, and hinted at the possibility of a new Max Payne title as film production ramps up.

Asked why the BioShock IP had moved to 2K Marin, and whether Levine was still attached to the project, company CEO Ben Feder said that Levine was a "terrific asset to the company," and that he was working on both BioShock 2 and a different IP.

2K Boston and Australia were both working on a new title, he said, but that was "not to say Ken is not involved" in the continuation of the BioShock franchise.

Future Rockstar

Asked where Rockstar might be headed now that production of Grand Theft Auto IV was winding down, company execs said that in addition to the Xbox 360 downloadable content expected in both Q4 of this year and in 2009, the company would be releasing "at least one major sequel in 2009," though no further details were given beyond saying the game would be a "triple A sequel."

Uncorking Payne

The company was also questioned about the prospects for a new volume in the Max Payne franchise, given more recent news on the forthcoming movie version has been surfacing.

Chairman Strauss Zelnick cryptically alluded to an Orson Welles commercial, saying "we will sell no wine before its time" -- in other words, would release no details before they were ready -- but added that there were "a lot of interesting things going on."

The EA Factor

Throughout the call, all executives stressed that the forthcoming quarter, fiscal year, and into 2009 were well positioned to "reap the benefits" of both the company's turnaround plan, and its stable of owned IP and industry talent.

The call opened with Zelnick's reiteration of prior company releases saying that EA's "unsolicited" offer of $26 a share drastically undervalued the company, and failed to compensate Take-Two shareholders for the synergies EA would receive should the acquisition go through.

Zelnick went through its IP sales numbers: GTA selling 66 million units to date, Midnight Club 11.5 million, Civilization 8 million, Max Payne 7 million, Mafia 2 million, BioShock 2 million, Red Dead Revolver, Manhunt, and Bully all 1.5 million, and Carnival Games approaching 1 million sold thus far.

Feder reiterated as well that the board and ownership was continuing to work to transform the company, increasing its strength and its value for shareholders, and make it "the most creative, innovative, and efficient" company in the industry.

The only way the 360 version would get near "free" AA would be by using subHD rendering resolutions, like 600p. It often does look like the 360 does some kind of default color filtering though, judged by looking at the wrong colors (but may result in less jaggies noticeable in games, game devs can take the color filter into account while designing games, DVDs and pictures will not) displayed while playing DVDs or showing pictures. Some claim the picture viewer just sucks, I don't know.
