Forums - Nintendo - New 3DS' E3 presence, or lack thereof. + My Nintendo E3 rating

I was under the impression that this year's E3 would reveal some exclusive titles for the New 3DS as well as new titles for the 3DS.
While the 3DS titles were met, the New 3DS still only has one exclusive title under its belt, one that is barely exclusive at that provided you have or managed to get Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii.

I had hoped that they would announce some games that would have showcased the extra RAM under the New 3DS' hood.

Despite this I do think that The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes looks like a lot of fun! It offers singleplayer, local and online multiplayer. Is it a more serious title? Probably not. That does not matter, because if it will provide hours of fun with friends and family, whilst offering excellent Zelda gameplay, I simply will not care that this game is not 'serious'. It is a game, games are meant to be fun. Serious games are good too - diversity is key.

Hell I am even curious about how Metroid Prime: Federation Force turns out. It looks like it will also be a fun multiplayer game.

I also enjoyed the Starfox Zero reveal - it looks like it will be a lot of fun. Changing the ships mechanics on the fly and being able to see through the cockpit via the gamepad screen is really neat. It is actually taking advantage of the Wii U hardware, this is something not enough people are giving it credit for.

Overall I was disappointed with how they handled the Wii U at this E3. They announced some filler titles (Mario Tennis), although, there was no big announcement. We had some trailers for games that are known to the public for approximately 2 years now, that was it really.

I wish they had showcased the Wii U and to an extent the New 3DS in a much more ambitious fashion.

Nintendo did not win E3, this is clear. However, I do not think it was a bad E3. It was somewhat good for 3DS owners, and a bit more lacklustre for Wii U owners.

Nintendo gets my rating of hosting an overall average event. 5.5/10.

I might give my overall rating for Sony's conference later, provided I have the time (in a separate thread of course).

Let me know what you think of my quick summary/review. Whether you think I left something out worth noting and so forth.

I havent personally watched the show.

But I did see the trailers and am glad that they did not announce any n3DS exclusive games.

For sure n3DS is a transitional system - we can expect the next nintendo portable system within the next two years.

True, the New 3DS is definitely in place to extend the 3DS' appeal and longevity. A new handheld is certainly within the horizon.

What did you think of the trailers that you have seen so far?

Now that I think about it, the fact that they didn't announce anything exclusive for n3DS is kinda weird...

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

You guys are disappointed only because you had unrealistic and silly expectations to begin with.

New 3DS is nothing but a DSi type revision just with the word "New" thrown into the title and bunch of you got overexcited and took the bait thinking "OMG! Now 3DS will be supported for 2 more years with tons of N3DS games!!!!".

Like seriously? If I'm a 3DS developer am I going to make a game that only like 5% of 3DS owners can play?

I only got one because I managed to get the Majora's Mask edition. It has some nice features to it and the increased processing speed is noticable.

Exactly it's a 3DS with the Circle Pad Pro & Amiibo Adapter built in, the face-tracking 3D was a last minute decision.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

During the conference i was just "meh" about Triforce Heroes/Metroid, but during the Treehouse event, they really got my attention. Both look actually very fun.

@ Zorg1000: It also runs HTML 5 and has more RAM. I would like proof that the face-tracking 3D was a last minute decision. Do you have Nintendo's design plans? That really just comes across as a very strange claim, just saying. I mean whether it was a last minute decision or not, does that really matter? It makes the 3D excellent. There is nothing wrong with that.

@Soundwave: I understand that other developers will likely ignore the New 3DS for the most part, however, Nintendo could have announced another game boasting that little extra power under the New 3DS' hood, even if it is just another remake or port, anything would have been better than nothing.

I agree, they do look like heaps of fun. They also suit the 3DS well. The quick and accessible fun on the go, and also desinged to be played with friends sort of gameplay.

I find it frustrating when people say "but this is not what the fans want". It is certainly something that particular individual or indivuals may not want, but that does not account for the entire fanbase, let alone others that may not be interested in the mainline titles.

People should just say it how it is "I do not want this game" not "Metroid/Zelda fans do not want this".

Was this announcement unexpected? Yes it was. Are both titles different to their traditional counterparts? Yes. Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily.
What is wrong with expanding a games universe? Different gameplay that does not hinder the mainline titles in any way? They will still release the mainline titles. I do not remember people reacting this way to Metroid Pinball, or Link's Crossbow Training. If anything the new Zelda is more similar to the Four Swords titles which are simply fun games. They are not as deep as other Zelda titles, but that does not matter as they have fun multiplayer gameplay implemented. It works for their intended goal.

This should be a plus considering the Metroid franchise has been fairly barren. The more attention it gets the better. If people had fun with a multiplayer orientated spinoff, they are likely to investigate the main series too. It can be seen as a gateway sort of game. A new, fully fledged Metroid game will likely see release sometime in the near future. One of the developers said they wanted to flesh out the Galactic Federation role in the Metroid universe before tackling the next game with Samus.

That being said, I am both a Metroid and a Zelda fan. I do not wish to speak on the behalf of the entire fanbase. If you (people in general) are looking forward to these games, cool, perhaps we can play multiplayer Metroid and Zelda sometime.

If you are not looking forward to it, that is fine as well, play a game that you want to play.

Moral of the story is: different people have different opinions. No one should speak on the behalf of an entire fanbase (this is not targeted at you Vkaraujo).

There was a lack of big-hitting 3DS games at all this E3. I don't think any third-party conferences even talked about games they were making for it, which is kind of bothersome. (Mainly Square Enix...)

However, I'm not that surprised. I'm annoyed, because 3DS deserves new and better games more than the Wii U does, and a little ho-hum, but in no way astonished.
