Forums - Nintendo - Hopefully Nintendo will learn from their bombed E3 before it is too late

After I heard Iwata will be taking the criticism from the E3 event seriously I thought of some things Nintendo will get out of this terrible ordeal.

1 - Stop or slow down directs.

I like the frequent directs but they announce too many games in them that should be megaton or big levels. Like the first trailer for SMT x FE. Why not save that for E3? I cannot remember what else they revealled in directs but I am sure it would have been better suited for E3, and maybe relagate the other directs for new trailers and gameplay videos.

All these trailers of delayed games actually do more to hurt the hype if you ask me.

Seriously, you know you are in trouble when your micro direct a month before was better than the actual E3 direct.

2 - Developing time for games is still too slow.

We have always been stern with this aspect of Nintnedo but hopefully they will now realise they have a serious problem. With all the delays of their Wii U games over the years to really only showing new 3DS games at E3, Nintendo really need to fix this up.

Or more strongly target 3rd party games.... again a weak point of theirs.

3 - If they want the Wii U to sell they need to support it better.

Honestly I thought they were learning from this mistake but again they have shown me otherwise. With no NEW, big Wii U games coming out soon gamers will now question if it is even worth getting a Wii U. Even I am questioning if the NX will be out sooner than anticipated.

Just announce the NX as a rival to PS4/Xbone (in terms of hardware and such) now or revive the Wii U! This is just hurting their reputation.

4 - Fire the director of that recent E3 direct.

I really enjoyed last years E3. Had jokes, games, interesting developer commentaries and so on. BUT this new digital direct ruined everything about it.

The muppets were nice but after the initial 20 seconds they didnt do anything worthwhile, and almost seemed to be mocking us like we were kids watching Seasame Street.

Games.... (im not saying anymore)

Developer commentaries in this direct were terrible. They were not interesting or even insightful (apart from the the last Mario Maker one which I liked). I dont want to hear about the Skylander guy butchering Bowser and DK. I dont want to hear about someone making yarn toys. These dont show any worthwhile insight to the games they represented. And especially dont show these commentaries on previously announced games, not worth it.

5 - 'Mature' content.

Why exclude Devils Third and Fatal Frame? They are big, interesting games. Their exclusion just shows Nintendo targeted kids with this direct and not gamers.

BAH, sorry for the rant guys, but now more than ever Nintendo needs to get their act together.

I kinda wish this was a regular direct, and not E3, which is the absolute worse time to bomb.

Hopefully, Nintendo learns from this mistake, experiment a bit with upcoming directs, and make sure next year delivers like last year, cause this year was just unacceptable.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Indeed.

Nintendo will probably show some nice stuff in the January direct of 2016 but then they probably will have nothing to show at E3 again....

What to do. Let the criticism stagnate for a while until E3 comes again or repeat their mistakes at another E3.

I like the Nintendo Directs a lot! Don't think they should be slowed or removed, but just hold off the big games for E3

Development should stay because it's wayy better to have a polished game than one that is rushed and buggy.

I found the muppets entertaining and fun to watch and don't think it was mocking us :/

But true, Nintendo really needs to learn from their mistakes and improve

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Yeah just use Directs to showcase new trailers of game mechanics and save reveals for E3.

Im not saying they should rush development but instead hire more teams to do more work.

I liked the muppet team at the start but the insert segments just didnt do anything for me.

Hopefully this backlash, probably the biggest in many years, will finally get through to them.

There was a direct a while back.. I think FF coming to the west and the return of SMT x FE happened on the same day, right? Now that kind of stuff would have saved their E3 for me.

I think they failed to strike the right balance between showcasing upcoming games and future titles (if there are indeed future titles).

Plus I believe they need to get their development priorities right. Stop wasting money and resources on garbage like that AC Amiibo party garbage and more into games like Splatoon, Super Mario Maker and other exciting new idea's.

Yeah Nintendo panicked after the Zelda U delay backlash and blew all their ammo in the months to follow. But even so, they should have compensated by packing new info on EVERYTHING they have going in E3. They didn't even properly represent the lineup of the near future for their platforms. Fatal Frame, Devil's Third, Fast Racing and the other indies, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, and other games were all missing. And limiting themselves to the immediate future was also dumb.

I actually wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we get a damage control Direct in the near future with more info on a lot of stuff and even the Zelda footage they mentioned just to pacify fans. They really don't have much of a choice.

It's too late. It happened.

And I thought Nintendo learned what works and what doesn't from thier winning amazing super awesome E3 2014......
