This generation has taught me that the closer these consoles come in sales and further away in features, the more it makes this forum go into a scavenging rage of fanboyism.

As far as the three console are involved, this generation is showing me that history may not be the judge of the results this time. 

There are several lessons:

1. Core Gamers, in spite of being heavily represented online and in the gaming media, really are not that important to the success of a console; essentially, if you target the Core Gamer demographic at the expense of more General Gamers, Casual Gamers, Non-Gamers and New Gamers you will be fighting to be a successful niche product.
2. Graphics have advanced to a point where gamers (in general) are comfortable with their representation of game worlds and are far more interested in interesting gameplay than shiny graphics.
3. Analysts may get a lot of press but have little insite into the direction of the market
4. Third Party Publishers can (in their attempt to anticipate the reaction of consumers) act like lemmings and move in the wrong direction; this is in part because of their dependancy on analysts.
