People be hatin'... but I loved Chrono Cross.

If Chrono trigger is a 10/10, then Cross is atleast a 9/10...
its right up there amoung the best of the best of rpgs for the ps1.

I really liked the series and I want to see a new chrono game (as long as it stays true to its origins).
(this had better not some butchered action type rpg though... chrono needs to be turn based)

Seems consistent with what I'm saying. Chrono Trigger is a 9.5+/10 (there is only one game that I would give a 10/10, and it isn't an RPG), Chrono Cross an 8/10. If I liked the game as much as other people I would probably rate Chrono Cross as an 8.5/10.  Either way, it was a decrease, not increase in quality, in my opinion. Most JRPG's released today would be 7.5/10 (worse than Chrono Cross.) The only  ones in recent years that I'd say are better are the Dragon Quest series, Persona series, SMT series, Xenoblade, and Ni No Kuni (if I am not forgetting something that is pretty much it.)

Also turning Chrono into an action-rpg would be something the modern Square-Enix would probably do, and that is one of the reasons why I don't want them to touch the series with new content. ATB works perfectly fine.

So weird, but it got me excited somehow... but I'm cautiously optimistic (it's SE afterall).

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Don't nobody think anything.

So everyone think of nothing is what I'm trying to say.

You need to explain your definition of quality. The quality of something vs whether you like it or not is two diffrent debates.

Example: Im not going to argue the quality of Uncharted, but I could give rat ass about series. Im not asking how you feel  about CC vs CT as a game but the quality of its parts.

CC has the higest of quality in every part. ( presentation, sound, writing, story, battle system). If I knock CC for anything it is the extremely easy difficulty. Every boss should of been garai/Miguel

Yes, I liked Chrono Cross less than Chrono Trigger because it was a lower quality game. It was relatively boring and lifeless, hence less quality of a release. And this whole quote tree was about what I, sc94597, would prefer. I would prefer a Chrono Trigger remake to a new Chrono because I doubt Square-Enix in 2015 can make a quality release. This is partly because they put their developers who would be relevant to such a game on the backburner, but also because of how poor their games have been for the last ten years. I also think that if Square in the PS1 era, couldn't make an Chrono game as enticing as they did with Chrono Trigger (no matter how good it was on its own) I doubt today's Square-Enix could even match Chrono Cross.

And you respond with your opinion as if it represents some objective "quality." Presentation and sound were excellent (I preferred Chrono Cross music to Trigger's), writing was atrociously messy (in my opinion), story was hurt because of said atrociously messy writing, and the battle system while OK wasn't the focus of the game and I find the battle systems of countless other RPG's to be better. Hence, it was a slightly above-average game because it didn't mess much up, but not so great as I found the story to be poorly executed. Another gripe I had was that not many characters were fleshed out and there were just too many of them to deal with. The premise was also not as interesting and fresh as Chrono Trigger's.

I agree with most of what you said, however I would like this to be a new entry in the Chrono series rather than a remake of Chrono Trigger.
Even though Square Enix haven't released any gems in the past decade or so, should we just give up as gamers? I'd rather they keep trying.

The problem I have is that Square Enix will more likely than not release a bad/mediocre Chrono game, nobody will buy it, and they'll come to the conclusion that nobody wants Chrono. If they get their crap together with FFXV, and their top-selling series (Final Fantasy) is good again, then I'll have some level of faith that they will do well with less popular series like Chrono. Until then I'd rather they not ruin the reputation of the series in the unlikely event that at some point in the future they do publish/develop gems again, and only then will they invest the effort, money, and talent needed to make a good Chrono game. If the next Chrono game were as good as Chrono Cross I'd be happy, but I don't think there is a chance of that happening, and I'd rather they release Chrono Trigger HD so that they can see the sales potential of a good game rather than the lack of sales potential of a bad one.

Well, when you come to the realization that it's now been 20 years since Chrono Trigger came out (and 15 years since Cross), I'd be happy if we ever get a new attempt at the series at this point. If you look at how much money Square and other companies are making from their free to play mobile games where players throw hundreds and thousands of dollars at the game to pull rare cards/weapons, the future of gaming is looking more and more scary.
In the end, the echosystem for games may make a new Chrono game even less likely in the future than it is today, and we may wait another 20 years for something that will never happen. Especially as the fanbase of those games might be deemed as too old to play games anymore. Suikoden for example, didn't happen even when Konami were focusing on games. Now there will likely never be a Suikoden 6. Breath of Fire? There's Breath of Fire 6 for mobile... Will there be another Wild Arms? Shadow Hearts? Etc.

Final Fantasy XV would release before the next Chrono game anyway, so if you're hoping that the FF series will become more critically acclaimed again through that game first, there's still that chance. Though I think if the next Chrono game is good enough, it'll still sell well enough anyway.

A remake is a better compromise because it has enough effort to make people who bought the original version buy it again, while allowing Square-Enix to see whether or not a good Chrono game has sales potential to cover the costs. There is a balance between creating something you want and making money that Square-Enix needs to find.

All i want from SE is a good 3rd instalment in the just cause franchise, and a release date for FF XV so i don't think i will be disappointed...

Edit: I'm gonna correct myself and say that i will be disappointed if there's no sleeping dogs sequel.

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

Why is FFXV being so damn shy? It's like, we know who you are, why are you hiding from the biggest gaming event in the history of games!?

For anyone that wants to replay the original Chrono trigger without using a SNES emulator:

* I'm actually thinking about buying Chrono Trigger an Chrono Cross again.

I really want to get into the Chrono series, and this may be a time to.
