Chrono Cross released four years after ChronoTrigger and 16 years ago. It also wasn't near the quality of Chrono Trigger in my opinion, I would rate Chrono Cross an 8/10 and trigger a 9.5+/10. I don't have any expectations that they can maintain the quality and atmosphere of either game sixteen years after the last release. I would rather have a full remake of Trigger with seventh or eighth gen graphics, voiceacting, and orchestrated music.

Your kidding? Chrono Cross is amoungst or is the highest quality JRPG's on PS1 period. Its quality is on par with CT.

Just for a correction, most of the development still works or is affiliated  with SE:

- Kitase check

- Hori check

- Kato check

- tokita check

- Uematsu check

Mitsuda and sakaguchi are only ones not affiliated with SE anymore

I can list ten or so PS1 RPGs that I liked more than Chrono Cross.

- Xenogears

- Final Fantasy IX

- Dragon Quest VII

- Vagrant Story

- Grandia

- Valkyrie Profile

- Wild Arms

- Suikoden II

- Final Fantasy Tactics (if we are to include SRPGs)

Meanwhile Chrono Trigger is up there with Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy VI, Earthbound and Terranigma as far as SNES RPG's go in my opinion, they were all of similar quality.

I find Chrono Cross to have been relatively boring and lifeless in comparison, but still a pretty decent game with highs much more than lows.  Hence the good score of 8/10. It was not Chrono Trigger for me though.

Almost all of them are working on mobile games and spinoffs these days. The people actually developing SE's AAA games are practically all new.

So...six mystery games. FF7 PS4 (now not a straight PC port, margianally improved), Spelunker Z, Star Ocean 5, Front Mission, Kingdom Hearts 3, and the Vita SaGa. Wait, maybe replace FM and SO5 with Bravely Default 2 and Dragon Quest #whatever it's up to these days.

You need to explain your definition of quality. The quality of something vs whether you like it or not is two diffrent debates.

Example: Im not going to argue the quality of Uncharted, but I could give rat ass about series. Im not asking how you feel  about CC vs CT as a game but the quality of its parts.

CC has the higest of quality in every part. ( presentation, sound, writing, story, battle system). If I knock CC for anything it is the extremely easy difficulty. Every boss should of been garai/Miguel

Yes, I liked Chrono Cross less than Chrono Trigger because it was a lower quality game. It was relatively boring and lifeless, hence less quality of a release. And this whole quote tree was about what I, sc94597, would prefer. I would prefer a Chrono Trigger remake to a new Chrono because I doubt Square-Enix in 2015 can make a quality release. This is partly because they put their developers who would be relevant to such a game on the backburner, but also because of how poor their games have been for the last ten years. I also think that if Square in the PS1 era, couldn't make an Chrono game as enticing as they did with Chrono Trigger (no matter how good it was on its own) I doubt today's Square-Enix could even match Chrono Cross.

And you respond with your opinion as if it represents some objective "quality." Presentation and sound were excellent (I preferred Chrono Cross music to Trigger's), writing was atrociously messy (in my opinion), story was hurt because of said atrociously messy writing, and the battle system while OK wasn't the focus of the game and I find the battle systems of countless other RPG's to be better. Hence, it was a slightly above-average game because it didn't mess much up, but not so great as I found the story to be poorly executed. Another gripe I had was that not many characters were fleshed out and there were just too many of them to deal with. The premise was also not as interesting and fresh as Chrono Trigger's.

Quality wise...the gameplay system is terrible in CC but everything else especially the characters and the music is fantastic.

Any problems I have with the battle system all stems from easy difficulty. Battle system sets itself up to be more strategic than it is, but would actually be strategic if it was harder. I dont ever use spells like Hires, Lores, stregthin, weaken ext. The games difficulty should scale based on how stars the player has on NG+ or put effort into boss design like garai/Miguel.

People be hatin'... but I loved Chrono Cross.

If Chrono trigger is a 10/10, then Cross is atleast a 9/10...
its right up there amoung the best of the best of rpgs for the ps1.

I really liked the series and I want to see a new chrono game (as long as it stays true to its origins).
(this had better not some butchered action type rpg though... chrono needs to be turn based)

How many times did you die to garai/Miguel and maybe Silver Dragon? Garai, Miguel and if you dont get the MasterMune, Silver Dragon are the hardest bosses of the game. I would include Dario but you can loop his programming easily. I did it accidentally and thought my game glitched.
