Forums - General - Best April Fools

In honour of the thread looking at the possibility of an EA console, what is the best/worst games mag April Fools?

Memorable ones for me include Street Fighter on the Game Boy, and the classic, balance a coin on your snes Mortal Kombat cartridge to get red blood. They are both from the English press, what has been the best from the US?

This Game Boy Street Fighter April fool was many years before a GB SF game came out. It was for the original GB and there was a picture of an attachment that would clip on to your GB that included a mini joystick and six buttons. How we were stupid enough to think that six buttons over two would work I am not sure.

EGM's Sheng Long trick is legendary. I tried to pre-order Twilight Princess for that "realistic Wind Waker".

I also thought that Game Now magazine's Metal Gear Solid X joke where you play from Snake's point of view in MGS2 was pretty good too. The best jokes are the ones you want to believe.

it wasn't a magazine prank, but a Counter Strike: Source prank from Valve was pretty classic in my opinion. The prank consisted of a weekly news update outlining a huge CS:S update with a crap load of new features that were pretty off the wall.

I remember one of the points saying something like,
"Your shotgun can now break and you'll have to send it out for repairs which will last for two rounds."

and,
"Make sure you take out your knife and swing it a couple of times at the end of a round because built up moisture can now ruin your blade if you never use it"

Mainly, everything in this prank was pretty humorous and what made it even funnier was when a bunch of threads started to show up on the Steam forums about people complaining how stupid of an update it would be and how much they would hate Valve when it comes out.

I had forgotten about the realistic Wind Waker joke.  That was the most cruel and evil of all; and therefore, the best.

And don't forget EGM's "Sonic and Tails in SSBM" joke. Man, EGM is the source of a lot of cruelty. Sometimes, when I think about how many times they got my hopes up, I get mad and wish Ziff Davis Publishing would go bankrupt!!

..............oh. wait.
