Forums - Nintendo - What will be the big holiday title(s) for 3DS in the west?

But with E3 next week, we will probably find out what they have planned for later this year, perhaps they have a big surprise for us.

I really think there must be a N3DS exclusive coming this Holiday. They tend to let the Wii U take center stage at E3, though.

yokai watch was my first guess but people are saying its delayed?

So a Pokemon game, plus what ever is announced at E3.

Ya Wii U will likely take center stage hence the micro Direct which was mostly 3DS to get it out of the way but there should still be some 3DS announcements regardless of Wii U being the main focus.

1) I seriously doubt NX is a handheld as Nintendo has had a lot of success with the 3ds (and all its models) where as the Wii U drastically needs a replacement much sooner.

2) I also seriously doubt Nintendo would launch the New 3ds models to be around for just a year, with one game specifically designed for them. The New series was Nintendo's way of extending the life of the 3ds by allowing Nintendo to do Wii level remakes on that device (games that can be ported for cheap, in a quick fashion, and appeal to the masses).

A Nov/Dec 2016 for the next handheld would give New 3DS a little over 2 years in Japan and just under 2 years in the west, pretty much the same amount of time DSi was on the market before 3DS came out.

Except the DSI was simply a more convenient device, not one with more power that can literally play games from the previous generation (like the New 3ds can with Wii games, compared to the old 3ds which can only do enhanced N64 and barely Gamecube level games). The New 3ds isn't just a revision. It was made to play games the 3ds couldn't.

DSi & New 3DS are pretty much the same, both have a faster processor and more RAM than previous models along with new features. According to wikipedia, there are about 200 DSiWare games which are not playable on previous models so yes it was also made to play games that DS/Lite couldn't.

New 3DS was announced almost a year ago (August 2014) and there is currently only 1 announced game not playable on previous models, releasing games not playable on older models is clearly not a major priority for Nintendo, a sku with Amiibo support is more likely the main focus of Nintendo.

Weren't those DSIware games simply small, digital games, that were not playable on the original DS simply due to it's online limitations? I'm talking about games that require more hardware power. I seriously doubt any of those DSIware games required more power, just probably an online store of some sort, but I could be wrong.

Ur right, they were all or mostly small digital titles but like I said it's been nearly a year since New 3DS was announced and we have 1 exclusive title with no others currently announced. Of the 52 million 3DS shipped, only about 3 million are New 3DS, they are also only forcasting 7.6 million 3DS shipped this year, some of that will be 2DS & a little of older models so let's say 10 million New 3DS out of 60 million total at the end of this fiscal year. I doubt Nintendo is planning on making a bunch of big exclusives for only 1/6 of the total install base.

Most likely, New 3DS is being used to push Amiibo and for double dippers who would buy it just because it's an improved model and their will be a few exclusives to make those hardcore fans feel like it was a worthwhile purchase.

Well, I guess the big holiday title is going to be Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice

I think it's pretty much guaranteed that they'll reveal a big title for the holidays. Not sure what it might be, but the schedule's looking pretty sparse as far as big releases go.

You ask this question one week before E3?

Yep, it's always fun to speculate
