Forums - Nintendo - someone help me get excited for kart

I'm not really excited for Mario Kart Wii.

I think it'll be good and a lot of fun, but it's not "OMG I CAN'T WAIT!" like Brawl.

I'll skip Brawl, but I'm all ""OMG I CAN'T WAIT!" for Mario Kart Wii :P

@ Hawk

Well said. MK is a series where I don't want them to turn everything upside down with a new version. If I started a new thread for every game I'm NOT excited about... the front page would be mine, all mine.

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

mk is one of my favorite series of all time and i've spent countless hours playing the various iterations

i am perfectly fine if it never hardly changes and we simply get new courses/battle arenas every few years

so i'm very excited about mk wii (much more than brawl) for the new tracks, new items, new battle, motorcycles, and online play

i played mk:dd just a few weeks ago on my wii to help alleviate the itch

Bets:Missed by 420k I bet leo-j vg$500 that wii will sell 31 million by 7/31/08.  Sorry, I don't think he has enough vg$ to make it with all of u that wish you could. Hit, with room to spare I bet kingofwale a 1-week ban that wii Americas ltd sales>360 Americas ltd sales as of the numbers for week ending 7/05/08 (using vgchartz homepage #s)

Predictions:

Wii will sell 18-20mil by 12/31/07  CHECKWii will sell 45mil+ WW by 12/31/08Wii will surpass PS2 sales WW by 11/17/11 (5yr anniversary)Wii Fit will hit 12mil sales in 2009MKWii+SSBB+Wii Fit+SMG > 50 mil sales by 2010 > gta4+mgs+gt5+ff13+haze+lbp

While we'll also certainly buy this game, I must admit, I'm not feeiling very excited about MKWii. But Mario Kart has always been a fun game and I don't expect this one to be any different, certainly worth the price.

fanboy strikes with a fury!

wow buddy, no need to be rude. it's not a flame thread. the point is im having trouble seeing the hype for the game. im sure you could have found it within yourself to send me a response in a polite manner, not some cheap personal attack.

I don't see where I have written something "rude" or a "cheap personal attack", but whatever...

I'm just tired of the "every MK is the same" claims. Controls, track design (I don't find them dull at all, btw), intensity, ... MK evolved in every sense. The replay value of MK:DD is incredible, against a former flatmate I played at least an hour a day, over 2 years or so. We never got tired of it, but by now I can probably play the courses with eyes closed, so I desperately need some new tracks.

Don't know about the new additions - but we'll see, I'm confident that Nintendo knows what makes the series so great.

- Motorbikes - no problem, we already had baby buggies and steam locomotives.

- Tricks - not sure about that

- Online: yeah!

One more question: How was dual driver a "gimmick"? Me and my former girlfriend loved playing together; when I told her that there will be no coop in MKWii, she was really disappointed. And for single player it was great, too. It added some tactics to the item thing. Really, I never understood how people could get upset about the fact that there were 2 toons sitting on the kart instead of one.

ur first post seemed angrier last night. i dont know, i was tired, haha.

(continues to hope online will be awesome cause it would be a real selling point).

I'm not very excited about Mario Kart Wii from the previews. However this is my favorite series. It brings back some fun memories. Kart is just about the most fun you can have on a console when people are over. Girls dig it too!

Also you don't have to use the wheel if you don't want to. I am going to give it a try though cause I like the extra immersion.

just so it's known, this is not a flame thread. im not out to attack MK fans or to slam the series. im simply questioning the hype for the game. if you are planning on responding directly to me, please avoid personal attacks. simply stating your own personal opinion will be fine. thanks.

i guess my biggest problem is that mario kart 4 just seems too much like mario kart 1 (not including handhelds). i mean, what's the point in releasing sequels once every 5 years if you're never really going to change anything? im a hugh fan of the burnout series and have followed it since installment 1. that series evolved more in 3 years then kart has in 15.

there are, of course, the pros of kart 4:
1. 32 tracks (tied for most in the series)
2. 24-48 characters (from what i understand, the former will more likely be the case)
3. 10 battle stages
4. no more snaking (from DS)
5. no more duel driver gimmick (DD)
6. online (hopefully this isn't half assed)

but then there are the cons, and these have been the same cons for years.
(note: these are based on the hands-on previews posted on the web):

1. no weapon selection screen (ie. an option to render certain weapons inactive)
2. no way to turn off computer catch up (ie. you take the lead and then the computer suddenly freaks out and becomes super tough)
3. no way to turn off player catch up (ie. allowing struggling players to get way better weapons then anyone in or near the lead)
4. dull stage activity (sure, you may be driving around a nice looking island or castle, but there is rarely anything going on to catch your eye)
5. too slow
6. wii wheel seems like a gimmick (well, this is actually new to the equation, but the "wheel" seems to offer no advantage over using a standard controller.... even for less experienced gamers. in fact, the motion controls may prove to be more challenging then intended. it's not like the old kart games were all that complex to begin with. my ex was a non gamer and im pretty sure she managed to beat DD through 150 cc)

anyway, if there weren't mario based characters in this game (ie. if it were "generic kart wii"), would you really be all that excited for it?

Are you sure Mario Kart would ever be a game for you?  Your gripes are kind of staples for the series (except the WiiWheel which isn't required).

^^

like i said (or maybe i didn't), these things don't like magically kill the game or series for me. i really liked kart 1 and MK64, but by the time a decade had past and i got my hands of DD, the feeling of sameness really began to take over.

since it's such a huge seller, it would be nice to see the high end care put into it that is put into brawl and galaxy. that's my feeling anyway.

well in the Nintendo mag review it state that the wheel works very well and you can control it using just the remote, nunchuck and remote, game cube or classic controller so the steering wheel is no problem, also you can turn off the options to have weapons so you can just race online or at home

its nintendo they always do a good job, dont worry

He said he's a fan. Why can't people criticize Nintendo games without getting that kind of question?  The Wii isn't perfect but you can't say anything negative about it without people asking you why you have 1, and this seems to apply here as well.

I have a lot of the same complaints, such as the stupid blue turtle shell which was not a staple.  Rubber Banding is annoying but that's a common racing game complaint, and it's only bad on 150cc and on.

I disagree that 12-player isn't a big improvement, though, because I don't know a single person that've ever played with more than 4 on DD because who has 2 gamecubes and TVs?

There is activity on the courses, too, so I'm not sure why this complaint is made. I suppose there could be more, but there are lots of obstacles and events happening.

Still, the weapon option would be much appreciated.  I would love to turn off red turtles shells as well, but at least there's a strategy to avoid those.  The major point here is that there's no reason to continue to give Nintendo a free pass to NOT INNOVATE.  They should have had online for DD!  It's ridiculous to wait this long.  Hopefully it works smoothly because I have my doubts.  Brawl is supposedly breaking their network already.
