The same is fairly true about the Sansa rape. People say it didn't happen in the books but it did - just not to Sansa. Bad things mean so much more when they happen to someone you care about.

This would be true if Sansa was a person of "weight" in any way in the books. I always thought she is a boring character and the series is making her way more important than she deserves. Making her getting raped is just for the show to be a scandal than anything else.

It already *was* a huge shitstorm on the internet.  In the time after Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was released, book-purists lost their minds.

Here's the trouble: the impression I get is that y'all don't want good television or good films, you just want staged readings of the books; you (and by you, I mean the movement at large) simply want to watch and not have to read anymore.

I love A Song of Ice and Fire.  I love Game of Thrones.  But the success of one has nothing to do with the success of the other.  Just make the best television you can, fealty to your source material be damned.

Tell me: which is the better movie, Twilight or The Shining?  Because one is an amazingly faithful adaptation, and the other is a bastardization of its source that also happens to be a cinematic masterpiece.

That's why I said that for me, the season 5 is bad, differences or no differences.

No character developments, no politics at all, just a succession of fight scenes and sex scenes with a few one liners and scandalous scenes in-between. It's not about the game of thrones anymore, just about "what will be the next shocking scene? who will die next?". Pretty uninteresting IMO.

Exactly this. I think we all can live with the fact that we now have two different stories with some similarities but season 5 is really just worse than the seasons before. That doesn't mean the series is bad but given the high standards they had before, this time there is way less stuff going on but it was quite clear when you consider how fast they moved through the books.

Anyway, I am glad we see more of the north and its mysteries than we got from the books. And I really hope Martin finishes his story before he dies...

Social justice warriors got really offended at Sansa's rape scene. Do they know what show they're watching?

Sure, all people complaining about it are social justice warriors...

I really enjoyed the last two episodes. You can see that they have put a lot of their budget in those two episodes. Probably the reson why Season 5 didn't really feel special or moving forwards until now. Won't make comparisons with the books as I know that they'll derive a lot. Don't really care about that. At least we have 2 mediums to enjoy the universe

So, what are the others who had good reasons for complaining?

"Stannis is a bad guy"

"Why Stannis is good"

Again, Stannis burns people.  You are OK with it as long as it's not his daughter.  Stannis is not a morally sound person.  You can argue he is a good leader, or that his harsh measures are necessary, but he is not a "good" person.  Killing his brother to become king is not a "good" decision, regardless if it's his "right".  If my brother and I were both wanting something wonderful and I was more deserving but I would have to kill him to get it, I would let him live and have the something.  I would never kill him to get it.

And as far as the "right" to the throne, Stannis has no real claim to it.  No one does.  It was by its nature a throne taken by force.  If the initial taking of it has merrit then it's Dany's now.  Robert had no legitimate claim to the throne, so if Robert's rebelian has merrit, then really it just belongs to whoever has the military will and ability to take it and there should be no such inheritance given to Stannis.  And as such it belongs to Tomlin until someone knocks him off it.

And as far as Stannis being the best choice to lead and to protect Westeros from the Others, meh.  Not really.  He was beaten soundly by the Lannisters in combat and lacks charisma to inspire his followers.  Tyrion, Jon, and Dany have shown varrying degrees of leadership, character and sound values to be suitable leaders.  Tywin was a fantastic leader while missing the good values part.  Stannis has been mostly desperate and flawed.

Also, he's going to burn his daughter in the books, too, it just hasn't happened yet.

I consider this to be the second best season, they left us some room to breathe after the fantastic 4th season. There has been a great mix of poltics, action and religion in this season. All the storylines are moving along at a good pace. The changes from the books have for the most part been very good. Honestly the book fanboys are starting to get ridiculous now, the changes have mostly been great and some of them have actually been improvements over the books, so stop whining and just enjoy this fantastic show.

I strongly disagree with the ''not very coherent'' part of Season 5. I think it has been even more coherent than last 4 seasons, as you can see pieces of the puzzle are starting to get together. I think leaving Sansa at Winterfell is a great idea, it keeps the North story interesting, while justifying Baelish's plans to be named Warden of the North after he takes back Winterfell from the hands of the winner.

Jon Snow has a very consistent story, as well as Cersei, probably the best two characters this season. I like to see more of Daenerys, it's interesting to see her evolve this season while making so many mistakes. I agree the Dornish part is sluggish, even though I kind of like Doran and the actor playing him. Hope Dorne gets more attention as Season 6 go by.

As for Stannis... I sense the end for him. Episode 9 made it very clear that he is desperate to win at all costs. For him, the end justifies the means. He already killed his brother, I'm sure he would do the same with his daughter.

I'm getting kinda of sick of this site now, it's just a constant barrage of negativity and people bitching and moaning about everything, you guys are just slowly draining the life out of me and destroying my passion for everything so bye guys I'm out.
