Asda hasn't stocked wii u games or wii u for years. But I bought Mario kart 8 from there. And they had super smash bros. Smaller games like Donkey Kong and stuff no chance. Its weird cos in germany some shops wii u sections are bigger then ps4 and way bigger then xbone

@bolded: I don´t mean to be rude but in which store? Mediamarkt/Saturn/Expert mostly focus on PS4/XboxOne. Or are you talking about some one man shop ?

@Topic: I have to say this sucks. Yes even if it doesn´t sell well it should still be available for your customers.

Media markt and Saturn there isn't two much between them, ps4 and xbone bigger. But toys r us wii u section bigger and toy world doesn't even sell ps4 or bone only 3ds wii u. The ones I have visited anyway.

Ahh right Toys´r Us. Yeah their Wii U section is actually larger than PS4/Xone. But what´s a Toy world? Never heard of that oO

If they take Mario Kart 8 off of store shelves, that's bad on them. Other than that it's pretty typical to only find the major games in places like Walmart. You have always had to go to Gamestop/ect (major video game retailers) to get smaller niche games for every console. This is completely non news.

Rule #1 is retail is to not waste limited shelf space on products that aren't popular. It has nothing to do with egos, fanboys, or consoles of choice. If it doesn't sell adequately then you replace it with something that does.

Wii U is being phased out by Nintendo themselves.

Only in the same sense that every console is in the process of being phased out the day it launches.

Because a general merchandise/grovery store chain in the UK (which hasn't really sold it in years anway) reclaims some shelf space?

Yep, this totally harms the US, Japan and rest of Europe sales and can't possibly last another 2.5 years because ASDA drops support it never really had to begin with.

Not on any big titles though, it will still carry those.... Which is all they really ever carried in the first place...

Some are saying that this has no effect, seeing as it's just one chain of stores. However, the story is much the same in most major store chains and most dedicated gaming stores have it even worse.
I still remember when retailers returned consoles from the initial first quarter shipment about one year after release because they couldn't sell them; yet this is only seen as a tiny issue by some.

There is absolutely no hold in thinking that they'll wait till 2018 (or even 2017 at this point) before releasing a new console, waiting another three years would be a disaster.

This reminds me of the late Gamecube era, when UK retailers already stopped stocking GC consoles and game... Which made me very disappointed, because that was the only console I owned from this generation.

The UK was never really fond of the Nintendo consoles, anyway. They're all about sports and shooting games.

Please explain how this affects the rest of Europe, The US and Japan to the point that it necessitates a new global console launch on a schedule other than what Nintendo wants.

Do you go to ASDA (who hasn't carried Wii U mcuh since launch anyway) to buy your games?

I'll put you easier. Explain to us how this doesn't harm the Nintendo perception in the biggest market in Europe and how with this pitiful sales are they supposed to last 2 or 3 years.

1. ASDA hasn't really sold Wii U much anyway since launch.  So no real change is actually going on.

2. Germany and France are bigger Nintendo markets in Europe than the UK.

3. 99.99% of the market in the US and Japan don't know or care about Wii U hardware sales from ASDA in the UK.

4. ASDA accounts for a very small percentage of UK sales.

5. The UK accounts for 5% of overall Wii U sales worldwide.

Your move.

1,2,3,4,5 and all the ones you like to add: UK Is the biggest market in Europe. Germany and France being bigger for Nintendo in sales doesn't mean UK is not a bigger market, which clearly has affected Wii U sales in all the continent. And pulling off any product of your company out of stores in never a good sign as many other retailers could follow, just like what happend to Vita. Less exposure is by no means good.

BTW, I want to know how will this aid the lifespan of the console.
