Forums - Gaming - More Evidence That The Call of Duty Xbox Exclusivity Deal Ended?

Is Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 about to break the trend of Xbox priority DLC?

The Xbox brand has always been considered the home of Call of Duty. Each year’s game would get demoed on a Microsoft stage, all advertisements would carry the Xbox logo, and DLC would always come first to Xbox consoles – and enjoy a 30-day exclusivity period.

It looks like things are going to be a bit different this year. The UK Xbox One page shows a number of AAA games, some are due this year, others next year. If you look at the game covers, there’s a green box that either says “exclusive game” or “content first,” depending on the game.

The Division for instance is not an exclusive game, but will get early-access to content on Xbox.

If you look at the Black Ops 3 thumbnail however, there’s nothing there.

When Matt went to Treyarch in April and played Black Ops 3, it was the PlayStation 4 version. Which may not mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it’s curious nonetheless.

Maybe neither company has an exclusivity deal. That'd be hilarious.

I've been starting to wonder that, too, even though if it wasn't with Xbox my second guess was a Playstation deal. x3 I think a lot of the initial assumption that Playstation was getting the deal instead, mine included, was it just seems bizzare that Activision would turn down, essentially, no-strings money and advertising aid. (Well, no strings that haven't been around for ages during the Xbox deal, anyway, couldn't imagine why the strings are chafing them NOW.) And while maaaaybe I could see one side deciding they didn't want the CoD deal, I couldn't imagine both platform holders deciding not to court Activision. You'd think, if nothing else, Sony would be interested in it just for the inevitable media buzz that would ensue at the change in status quo.

Still, if neither side actually has a deal going with Activision, then presumably one of those things must have gone down. Really wish I could see behind the proverbial closed doors, find out what sparked the sudden change.

EDIT: And, of course, if it turns out the deal with Xbox is still intact, that raises its own questions on what the heck is going on with all these clues to the contrary. o.O

Probably because MS knows the game will sell more on PS4 regardless, and Sony knows the same thing. Hence no one wants to waste money on a deal.

I'm hoping that neither Microsoft nor Sony have the marketing deal. It would be interesting to see Call of Duty go about it without the help of the big 2.

i could care less since i dont play cod. im just happy i wont have to sit through 10mins of cod at e3 this year

I thought it was obvious that Sony has it from the Mountain Dew/Call of Duty/PlayStation leak.

The Division is getting content first on XBO? That's news to me. :o

No sure if this is evidence. The PS4 doesn't advertise any deal either. One of them is waiting for E3 to reveal the deal. If X1 or Sony were to put anything about it on their websites it would spoil the announcement.
