Forums - Nintendo - Pigs are Flying! Gamespot's Splatoon Review

This is a well-deserved score.

I haven't pre-ordered a Nintendo game since Wind Waker (March 2003) and I am surprised by how much fun I had out of the box with Splatoon. I understand the complaints about a lack of initial content but Splatoon occupies such a unique niche with its 3 minute matches I almost don't care. If you have 5 minutes to play a video game on a busy night, Splatoon is THAT game. It's so available and easy to pick up and play that saying Splatoon lacks content is almost like saying Tetris lacks content. Obviously some fine-tuning needs to happen, but the core of the game is there and it is brilliant.

That's a great way of putting it, I agree!

I've added a short list of the more egregious aberrations by Gamespot btw... just for fun :)

I guess Splatoon brought the kid side of them out. Or maybe their squid? Or maybe both!

All joking aside, great to see a new IP from Nintendo getting great reviews! I'm expecting scores closer to a 9 for the sequel now!

I don't think GameSpot gives bad reviews to Nintendo games, I feel like they just try to review them with a little nostalgia input as possible. Like they're reviewing every game as though it is a standalone title, and not "a Mario game".

Or they just dislike Nintendo but couldn't bring themselves to hate Splatoon. Who knows.

Nah most of their reviews are perfectly reasonable and occasionally generous... There's just been a few that were bizarrely negative.

You don´t need to feel nostalgia about Donkey to know that is one mind blowing platformer in every sense. And that game had a 6.5 for gamespot...

I stick with the bolded xD

It was actually a 6.0.

Official Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Thread

Nintendo seems to be loosing their charm with Wii U. Gamespot is aware about that. They are critical and unlike ign they can be trusted. When everyone was praising halo master chief collection gamespot dared to give 6. And they gave splattoon 8. And its a great score.

That's one reason gamespot is often a little negative... They don't bother with decimals and almost always seem to round down rather than up.

Pretty cool.
