Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rise of the Tomb Raider box art and trailer!

There isn't even a single post in the entire thread that says so. Not even suggesting it...

Typical trailer but very nice box art. I really loved TR2013 and that's coming from a huge Tomb Raider fan since day 1.

No game or reboot will ever create the same feeling and atmosphere TR1 and 2 were able do do for me. Me and Lara alone, solving the mysteries of old egypt (which I am also a big fan of). The old Lara days are done, as many games of this time. I closed this chapter, went on to TR2013 and didn't even expect a game like the "old".  I was surprised by the game and hope to see gameplay at E3.

Its coming to other consoles. MS was using Tomb Raider to throw off the Uncharted hype because they had no game of its calibur. Phil Spencer admitted it when the internet backlash started. He said it was an "opportunity". Once Uncharted was pushed back MS essentially was handed the year by Sony. I mean I am going to play the game all the same on my Xbox but MS did screw the primary Tomb Raider crowd who are normally on PC and Playstation from touching the game for a long while. Traditionally thats where the primary fans are. Spencer admitted it was timed and will be coming to platforms on another date (question is when?). Perhaps at E3 we will find out when that date will be. Spencer did admit that the E3 Tomb Raider reveal last year was a bit decieving.

I have the first Tomb Raider still sitting in my backlog. I honestly own it on PC and Xbox 360...just need to get to it!

STAGE, seriously. We all know. ALL. There is no need to repeat what we heard in dozens of threads in hundreds of posts. Nobody is arguing whether it comes to other consoles. The only thing unknown is the length of the exclusivity deal. This is going to be off-topic in this thread as it is about the trailer and the box-art. I only replied to him as he is talking about people which are apparently not in this thread. If you want to talk about why MS did this deal, do it. In a seperate thread if you think it wasn't discussed enough before.

Btw, yes, the game was primary on PS. Because Sony paid money so other TRs wouldn't also come for Saturn and Nintendo 64. Feel free to make a thread about this, too.

Wait, do you have the first first or the remake first?

Oh, ok. By nowadays standards it is way more "playable". I think the old TR, set at its time with gamers mostly used to 2d games and some 3d racers and fighters, this game was oberwhelming. The atmosphere, a whole world in 3d, the story... The impact... I still can't believe how it hit me back then. I guess you can't transport this to today. If you really want to try the first first, do it via emulator or PC so the graphics don't completely fuck you up. The reboot is very good but still different to a decent amount to get you to play the first first, too :) (And if you play on PC, keep in mind that consoleros weren't able to save where they wanted - we had to use save crystals which were rare in this game and once used, they disappeared...).

cant say im all that excited, didnt like the last tomb raider game so im not exactly filled with hype and excitement.

Tomb Raider was also on the Saturn but Sega lost almost all of their third party support because they pissed off third party by rushing the launch of the Sega Saturn. I saw a documentary on the fall of Sega which pointed out a lot of issues with Sega of America causing their huge fall with third party. As if Nintendo didn't cause enough of their troubles in the beginning. Sony was more of a problem for Nintendo than Sega. Sega did themselves in. They can barely run their company properly as a third party. Luckily Nintendo and Microsoft have been commissioning Platinum Games.

I didn't know that you already knew about the Tomb Raider issue with Microsoft. I'll still be playing it on my One regardless. Sorry about that.

Sega pissed off third parties but that wasn't why Lara didn't appear after TR1 on other consoles:

"In September 1997, Sony Computer Entertainment America signed a deal with Eidos to make console releases for the Tomb Raider franchise exclusive to the PlayStation, preventing the Sega Saturn or the Nintendo 64 from having any Tomb Raider game released for it until 2000, a deal that would prove very beneficial to Sony both in terms of revenue dollars and also in further cementing the PlayStation's growing reputation as the go-to system for must-have exclusive titles.[10]"

I think if you want to discuss this further, do it on my wall or via pn or something. To me the case is closed, TR franchise was locked out of consoles before (and really locked out) because of money.

Im not a big fan of wikipedia links, but I can believe this. This wasnt worse than GTA but its probably one of their more notorious moneyhats of the past.
