Forums - Nintendo - Why are the perks and sub weapons so random in splatoon? Why Can't i just CHOOSE them?

Nintendo didn't wanna put the effort into balancing all the perks and sub weapons on their own so they balanced the game in the worst way possible, by restricting the player.

This is getting ridiculous. Splatoon is class-based. The three classes are Shooter, Charger, and Roller, and their respective subweapons are intended to complement the primary without unbalancing the game.

Nobody complains about how TF2 "restricts the player" by not allowing them to create a Flame Thrower + Medi Gun + Sandvich loadout.

So its a class based shooter and Nintendo couldn't be bothered to balance an even smaller pools of primary weapons, perks and subweapons restrictive to each class.  Sorry dude I choose to have more faith in nintendo than that.

I don't follow. They are very well-balanced. Furthermore, in TF2 any given weapon can only be used by a single class, whereas in Splatoon most (if not all) subweapons and specials can be used by any class, just not with any primary weapon. So, for instance, if you like suction bombs and rollers, you can get a set that has those. Or you can use suction bombs with a charger, or with a shooter. Subweapons and specials are not "restrictive to each class" like you said.

You didn't really address the comparison I brought up. You're thinking of Splatoon like Halo or COD where you can customize your loadout, when it is more like TF2 where you choose from a limited pool of loadouts depending on which 'class' you pick. It is not perfectly analogous to any of these other series because Nintendo made their own game, but it has more in common with class-based shooters which do tend to restrict your loadout options. Since this is par for the course with these kinds of games, I see no reason to take issue with it.

Balancing.

Seriously, why something different is automatically something bad? This game is constantly being blamed for doing things on its own way, like if that was a bad thing!

As many have said before: BALANCING

Imagine starting the game and you go up against a lvl20 player with OP gear. It sucks.
I know it happens in other games but sucks regardless.

That being said I wouldnt mind a hardcore mode where people can choose a custom set.

Shush, dissenter! Embrace the homogenization of games! There is a single "correct" way to handle each aspect of game development for each genre, and any developer who strays from these guidelines is simply being too lazy or too obstinate to follow them properly.

Always remember that challenging conventions is the devil's work.

I usually just go with the flow. I look at what I got and get good with it.

Wow you think there can be only a single way to play a game, sad

I find quite interesting that you need to find most suitable combination of weapons and clothes for some specific map.

I was laying it on pretty thick, I didn't think it would be possible for Poe's Law to come into play.
