Forums - Nintendo - What if every new Amiibo character becomes a playable smash character?

Bad idea because there will be too many characters

I agree, essentially, it would require a team working on Smash Bros throughout the expected life time of the Wii U and beyond. It would also dilute the product for the next eventual Smash Bros release.

That's how you can make the game last.  So far the most killer app for these amiibo are smash bros. and everything else pales in comparison.  At least it makes a worth wild game to play amiibos with.  So what does this mean?  Another $4.99 goes to nintendo for both 3ds and wii u, but it's not like you get a new character every week, month or even the next 3 months.  It will be polished, detailed, and finished when it's ready.  Plus, even when the NX comes if it's for home console or mobile, they may still have backwards capability if not just a digital download of the game.  I don't really need a new smash bros. in the next 10 years if it's still coming out with new characters.

So, good idea or bad idea?

And what if every amiibo came with ten thousand dollars!?

: ( How can you put more work on Sakurai like that? Give the poor man a break :(

it would be pretty tempting to actually open my amiibos then. That would kill me. That being said, i was just thinking today how an inkling character would fit REALLY well in smash. Standard punches and kicks (maybe some hair whipping moves thrown in) up special could be the 8bit squid transformation from the squid jump mini game, or just a super jump from the actual gameplay, neutral special could be a 3 round splattershot burst, forward special could be a sniper splat shot, and down could be that mortar splat shot (can't remember the actual name) kinda like snakes down special from brawl. Final smash is a kraken transformation, and when they roll, ink appears on the ground and they swim through it. Of course male and female would be different costumes. It just seems like a perfect fit to me. Would love to see captain toad as a character as well with pick axes, head lamps (blinds/stuns fighters at close range), and turnip pulls that are faster than Peach's. Would be fun.

that would mean 2 inklings, a squid, chibi-robo, 3 yarn yoshis, and every pokemon they made for Pokemon Rumble U

No, 1 inkling with boy/girl skin like Robin, and squid as a comeback move.  Yoshi is already is smash, no need to make yarn yoshi, just like no need to make golden/silver mario.  Chibi Robo would be great for smash.  Amiibo only pokemon, not all.

We don't need another smash within the next 10 years, this could be it until forever.  Honestly, Brawl had some big problems.  Slow pace, bad online presesence, tripping, poor character balance, etc.  Smash bros 4 is more tight, faster, more competitive, no tripping, more akin to melee, more characters, amiibo support, better online presence.  The only big problem with smash 4 is that there is no Subspace emissary and then again that's not really all that big a problem.

As for too many characters, Dota, Leagues, WOW, Skylander, Disney infinity, all those games are fine with so many characters and their business is thriving.  For someone who plays a lot of smash, and for a community always looking for a challenge, new characters presented every 6 months is not a problem at all.  Perhaps for all those who have not been a smash player since 64, but the more core smash players will continue to buy the gane characters.

Why do we see annual releases of Infinity or Skylanders?

Its about the Money.

As good as Smash 4 is, Nintendo will want one of their top franchises available for distribution on their next console.

nah.
i think they will let the new characters/amiibos for the next smash bros game.
