Forums - Gaming Discussion - A Microsoft turn around? The importance of games in gaming.

Microsoft not being to turn this around would be the best thing for the industry.

It'd send a clear message that DRM/Always Online/Requiring Gimmicks, are not the way to go. If they win, they will just try again. Let Microsoft eat humble pie. Thankfully, all Sony needs to do is a $100 price drop and they will win.

But its difficult to avoid the fact that for both Sony and Microsoft, the first year was characterised more by a lack of gaming strength than any brilliant new innovations. But where this has been true for both, it has been most true for the PS4. Indeed, before Bloodbourne, it was hard to look at the PS4 and say "gee, I really need that console for game/games "X."

As we look ahead to the end of this year, it is becoming clear that Microsoft has a relatively strong line-up of announced games, compared to Sony.

No they don't
Sony has the better library and currently the better games coming.
People should stop discrediting everything that doesn't have a 500 Million $ Budget

And currently Sony has the best Game of this Gen > Bloodborne which will get DLC and as we know from experience Souls DLC are full expansions with a lot of content.
EVERY 3rd Party Game plays into the cards of Sony with having the better versions and huge games like Fifa15 almost sold like an exclusive to the PS4 if you compare the sale numbers.Metal Gear Solid 5 will pretty much get handled the same.

To add
There is no turn around - Yes they have a strong selling franchise coming up for the last 2 months of the year after 10 months of nothing.Congrats
Halo 5 will obviously sell tons and is their first system seller after 2 years.Forza 6 won't do anything to be afraid of and everyone know Tomb Raider will come in better quality to other platforms. If they don't sell the X1 this holiday for 200$+ those games people won't buy Tomb Raider as much as they would for PS4 at a later date.

And here is something to think
Microsoft had nothing but Ori,which you can get on PC, for the first 6 months of the year while PS4 had Bloodborne as their ultra High quality game and a couple of smaller titles to enhance their exclusive library
You can't change that the first 6 months were (nearly) empty for the X1 and those few 3rd Party Games performed and sold all better on the PS4 too.Games like Type0,which are merely library enhancing games in my book, sold ~90% of its units on the PS4 worldwide.
Currently Sony obviously has nothing on the scale of Halo 5 for the holidays but who cares?
1) They could change that cause unlike the first 6 months of the year which are over the 2nd part of the year is still coming up.
Get it?Sony still could announce "High caliber" games for the upcoming 6 months but you can't change the that you didn't have anything the 1st 6 months.
2) Doing good 2 out of 12 months in 1 part of the world isn't a turn around - When do people learn to understand this?

Sony doesn't seem to care for the holidays which is a good thing
I liked to play Bloodborne in March and watch the Order in February
Im glad i didn't have to wait for November to play Bloodborne cause i like to play in 12 out of 12 months per year.

And for me personally i hope there aren't coming to many more games this October > December
Im already stuffed up with Persona5,MGS5,Fifa16,Star Wars,Rainbow Six Siege,Disgaea and a couple of other games - Can't be more diversity in genres than this.
Another point why Playstation is so loved - This huge library full of diversity and supporting many different genres.
All the Japan Exclusives coming up and even games like Street Figher....tasty diversity everywhere.

Microsoft will have a huge Holiday 2015 in the USA but not cause of a turn around.
Halo 5 and probably good deals are going to ensure that but the worldwide game of Sony won't even get goosebumps cause of that.
And as said who knows - They could still announce stuff which will get accepted by Holiday fanatics cause the 2nd part of 2015 is still coming up.
But for me Persona 5 > Halo 5,TR and FOrza 6 combined =)

As we look ahead to the end of this year, it is becoming clear that Microsoft has a relatively strong line-up of announced games, compared to Sony.

yeah.... no

Ori
Scream Ride
Halo 5
Forza 6
Fable Legends (F2P)
Tomb Raider (timed exclusive confirmed by phill spencer)

VS

Bloodborne
Tearaway
Persona 5
Until Dawn
The Order 1886
No Mans Sky (timed exclusive, coming to PC after, no word on XB1)
Rime (confirmed for 2015)
Tomorrow Children
Alienation
MLB the show

you got two AAA games for XB1 and one timed, that is coming to PS4, with one good Indie game released (ori). PS4 already has two AAA games, one has stellar reviews, the other doesnt, but then there is Persona 5, a series known for its excellence. and then a much longer and bigger list of games coming to PS4 like No Mans Sky (which has a scale bigger then the rest of all the other games combined) and tearaway, which is made by media molecule. and MLB the show.

if you are looking at the holiday games alone and forgetting the rest of the year, then by all means go ahead and do so, but most people game outside the holidays and Sony clearly has a better lineup of games.

Not really. Sony will just do the sam thing with the PS5 and everyone will suddenly love it. Like with the paid online :)

Yeah, because with Sony you don't have DRM, right? Seriously, in the current state where the consoles are in need of online connection for patches and updates operating a console without internet is close to no fun. But MS is the bad guy here, sure, and Sony the Angel sent from heaven.

Btw, Sony already is winning.

I don't agree with you. In its first year, PS4 got Infamous: Second Son, which was the first truly great exclusive of this gen. The fact that you completely ignore that game makes me question the relevance of this thread. It was better than all XB1 exclusives last year easily.

Anyway what were the exclusives that made you think "hey I need to buy an XB1 for this game" in its first year? The PS4 atleast had Infamous: Second Son, while from my point of view XB1 didn't have anything on the same level, unless we talk about racing games, where both PS4 and XB1 have delivered great games.

Also, so far this year, PS4 already has two exclusives, one of which is considered a masterpiece by many while XB1 has no exclusives. So what you stated is the opposite of what is true.

Lets not take upcoming games into account till they have been released and we have played them, as till then we cannot judge their quality.

I agree with you Starcraft. And there will be even more reasons to agree after E3

I think  at the end of the year

Xbo exclusives 2015 >>> Ps4 exclusives 2015

I think they can deliver a surprisingly good E3, maybe.
