I got the sega megadrive (genesis) when I was very young but it wasn't that that made me a gamer it was definitely the sega Saturn that made me enjoy games so much and more importantly it was the discovery of the RPG/JRPG genre that done it. I loved the story telling and watching characters personalites come to life in a game, it was like reading a great book but you were in control.

So, it was my second console I owned which made me a gamer.
